Job Description:
What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to contribute to data analyses and writing for an ongoing research study on the spiritual lives of young adults with disabilities. This research study is for the Bridges to Belonging project, a partnership among George W. Truett Theological Seminary, the Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities (School of Education), and the Center for Church & Community Impact (Diana R. Garland School of Social Work). The principal investigators are Drs. Angela Reed (Truett), Erik Carter (Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities), and Gaynor Yancey (Social Work). The Program Manager for the Bridges to Belonging project (Elyse McMullen) will oversee the work of the Research Assistant.
A Bachelor's degree and less than one year of relevant work experience are required. A Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience are preferred. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- The availability to work in-person
- Strong written communication skills and grammatical proficiency
- Deep understanding of accessibility and supportive church practices related to serving young people with disabilities, mental health challenges, and/or chronic illness
- Experience conducting interviews and data analyses with disabled young adults
- Higher education degree in the field of social work or theology
All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
- Analyze findings from a qualitative study addressing the experiences of disabled young adults in church settings
- Contribute to the writing of findings for the purpose of publication
- Develop practical resources for our partner congregations
- Contribute to the development of other materials for our toolkits, including the translation of research findings
- Attend selected cohort gatherings online and in-person
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
- Ability to comply with university policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
