Job Summary

Inspire Awesome with Eastern Washington University! We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Advisor for Student Organizations


Under the guidance of the Director for Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL), this position facilitates the planning, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive campus-wide student activities and involvement program.


The Advisor is the primary student affairs professional responsible for providing operational management and leadership of the Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) community. The SFL community includes 21 chapters, 3 councils, with approximately 600 members in the community. This position actively collaborates with student leaders, faculty, staff, and Cheney and Spokane community to create positive community relations, leadership opportunities, and evaluation of the SFL community, risk management, and intervention.


The Advisor is additionally responsible for the general advising, program development and services that support the success of student clubs and organizations. The Advisor holds a full-time, twelve-month, administrative exempt position that reports directly to the Director of SAIL. The position requires the ability to work frequent evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Education or related field.

  • Experience working with student activities, student organizations, student union or related area, such as event planning.

  • Knowledge of the organization, function, and purpose of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

  • A minimum of one year's experience in a higher education field, either as a student employee or professional staff member.

  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education or related field.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services for student activities, social fraternities and sororities, and student leadership programs

  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of student programs to include culturally diverse student populations.

  • Budgeting management experience.

  • Risk management experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and practice.

  • Assessment and the development of learning outcomes.




Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing environment to deliver the most effective programs and interventions.
