Overview:
Under the direction of the Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach, the incumbent will be responsible to recruit quality student-athletes (with an emphasis in distance events which include 800m and up) within the guidelines of the Code of Recruitment as required by the Head Coach; coach student-athletes in practice and competition; monitor the conditioning and training of the student-athletes; teach and develop sport specific skills and strategies to enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes; assist in the success of team performance and eligibility criteria; organize and direct local, regional and/or national meets as required; conduct summer camps and track/field clinics; enforce written team rules and expectations including while traveling and on and off campus conduct; comply with NCAA, Conference and University rules and policies; assist in the monitoring and maintenance of academic progress and eligibility of team members, and in the coordination of team travel as needed; if applicable, prepare data and reports as necessary in support of the NCAA, Conference and University rules compliance; assist in the promotion of fund raising activities; assist in Title IX and diversity outreach.
Position Summary:
Major duties of the job include:
Recruit Quality D-I student-athletes
Plan and direct the education of student-athletes in techniques, skills and conditioning to enhance their athletic progress
Monitor and maintain academic progress and eligibility status of student-athlete team members, in cooperation with Academic Support Services
Assist in contest scheduling and coordination of team travel
Coordinate with the Compliance Office for continued compliance of NCAA, MWC and University rules and regulations
Ensure student compliance with written team rules
Assist with promotion of fundraising activities and/or the promotion of events, as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
Strong communication and motivation skills
Coaching philosophy and teaching concepts must be compatible with those of the Head Coach
Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students, and members of the community
Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference and NCAA regulations
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
Ability and willingness to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department
A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution
Minimum of two years coaching experience at D-I, D-II or JC Level within Track and Field and Cross Country
Preferred Skills:
Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, physiology, exercise science or some related field of study
Two to five years coaching experience in Track and Field and Cross Country at the Division-I level or professional level
Experience and demonstrated ability in recruiting quality student-athletes
