The Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education (LEBSE) at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic-year position as an Assistant Professor in Literacy Education, to commence in Fall 2018. The successful candidate will teach courses focusing on elementary literacy development (grades TK-6), with additional opportunities to teach in the Masters and doctoral program.

The Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education (LEBSE) at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic-year position as an Assistant Professor in Literacy Education, to commence in Fall 2018. The successful candidate will teach courses focusing on elementary literacy development (grades TK-6), with additional opportunities to teach in the Masters and doctoral program.

The successful candidate will integrate pedagogical content knowledge for teaching reading and writing across various disciplinary fields with a critical understanding of current literacy standards and frameworks. Through a strong commitment to teaching for equity and social justice, the new faculty member will emphasize the culturally and linguistically diverse epistemologies, literacies, and identities of elementary students.

The candidate is expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda, as broadly defined in our department and university, and to participate in service activities that support the core values of the university, college, department, and program. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, advising students, supervising preservice teachers, establishing university-community partnerships, and engaging in program development and course (re)design.

Required Education: An earned doctorate in Education, with a concentration in literacy education or closely-related field, is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/10/2018).

Required Experience:
1) A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the TK-6 level;
2) Strong knowledge of and ability to apply pedagogical content knowledge related to literacy across disciplines;
3) Knowledge of and experience with assessment practices focused on students' literacy development;
4) Evidence of commitment to social justice/culturally sustaining pedagogy;
5) Evidence of commitment to working effectively with colleagues and university students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Excellence in teaching at the college level;
2) Knowledge and experience with curriculum standards, frameworks, and assessment;
3) Experience teaching/working in diverse multicultural and multilingual contexts;
4) Evidence of commitment to addressing equity/justice related to issues of diversity with future educators;
5) Experience with digital and/or multimodal literacies;
6) Commitment to inquiry-based teacher education;
7) A demonstrated scholarly agenda in literacy education.
