GRADUATION ADVISOR (Student Services Professional II)

Primary Duties:
Graduation Advisors provide developmental advising to first semester transfer, current and graduating students, on a drop-in, referral, or appointment basis, and also via workshops and pop-up graduation events. Graduation Advisors perform related activities in support of the University's focus on student success, retention, and graduation as well as the University's and Chancellor's Graduation Initiatives for 2025 and beyond. Working under the general supervision of the Assistant Registrar, incumbent performs moderately complex professional student services work, applying both knowledge and judgment to independently resolve problems and accomplish tasks, often after researching information. Utilizing a combination of high-level interpersonal skills and personal student contact, Graduation Advisors help students develop intentional decision-making skills and strategies for academic success, working on problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage.

Required Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
AND
Experience:
Two years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

  • A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.
Special Requirements:
  • The person holding this position is considered a Limited Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. This is confidential information that is in most cases protected by statutes, regulations, or other legal mandates.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent primarily performs professional office work using standard office equipment including computers and is frequently required to sit, move, stand or work in a stationary position for extended periods. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position and moving about inside the office. Some duties will require walk/travel to other offices or building on and off campus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Academic Evaluations is often a fast-paced work environment in which we serve a large number of students and work on a variety of programs and projects. This position involves frequent interaction with students, parent, and colleagues to perform essential job functions. Must be comfortable relating to students in both formal and informal settings while maintaining a a professional relations. Service delivery can vary from individual sessions to group presentations.
