Full-time, "Non-Exempt," Probationary position with the possibility of converting to permanent.

Multiple Vacancies: This recruitment is to fill two (2) vacancies.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Summer Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Typical Activities

Under the general lead of the Senior Creative Services Analyst in the Office of Strategic Communication, the Graphic Designer will provide graphic design and animation services for academic and promotional/marketing collateral (print and video) for CSUSB as assigned.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conceptualize, design and produce print and digital-ready resource material (promotional, marketing, advertising, etc.) for both internal and external university marketing efforts building upon CSUSB's established brand and graphic standards.
  • Interpret needs of staff and administrators, clarify objectives, and apply methodology to design innovative and effective visual communication solutions.
  • Confer with the campus and external personnel as needed to coordinate production of graphic/digital materials from concept to delivery consistent with the university's established brand and graphic identity standards.
  • Work independently on assigned projects or as a member of a project team.
  • Collect and distribute publication/digital files to appropriate agencies, suppliers, etc.
  • Provide requested imagery as needed for all print/digital needs.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students and other constituents.
  • Collaborate with all professionals as required.
  • As assigned, serve as a contact person for print/digital clients, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for proofreading and design review of his/her own projects to ensure quality design and accuracy that meets university brand and style guidelines.
  • Maintain websites with updated information, photos, video and other content, using the university's content management system.
  • Meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Prepare printing specifications to obtain bids. Confer with printers as needed.
  • Oversee, provide instruction and design guidance to student design assistants.
  • Provide artistic feedback and review designs of staff graphic designers.
  • Devise and contribute to guidelines for file setup, pre- and post-production and archiving both print and digital projects.
  • Attend university meetings and events as needed.
  • Track and communicate job progress in production management software.
  • Oversee and maintain digital archives and image resource files.
  • Serve as a steward of CSUSB's visual identity, monitors its usage on publications/promotional items produced throughout the campus and off campus vendors as needed.
  • Contribute to the universities vision of being the Academic leader in customer service through quality, commitment, courtesy and teamwork.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and inventory of equipment to assure adequate operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts or a related field with at least five (5) years of experience in Graphic Design, Communications or Marketing and/or equivalent. A Master's Degree in Fine Arts is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to create and produce graphic/digital materials using a wide-range of media, methods, techniques, software and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of graphic layout and photographic requirements and procedures.
  • Advanced skills in the utilization of specified computer graphic design programs including Adobe In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Acrobat.
  • Ability to take artistic and provide direction with a positive attitude.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Expert knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Ability and patience to teach others how to use software.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and work effectively under tight deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Must be a creative problem-solver.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and maintain professional relationships with many different constituencies within and outside the University.
  • Must be able to maintain a friendly attitude during stressful conditions.
  • Must be able and willing to take direction.
  • Ability to produce in a fast pace work environment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
