Position Description:
Ideal Candidate Statement:

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of and be willing to perform the following:

Basic pool vacuum systems
Pool chemical testing and treatment
Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to pool mechanical room components
Be able to address emergency pool cleaner
Be able to perform basic custodial and maintenance duties such as replace lights, repair broken furniture and do my minor electric repairs
Must be able to predict and order chemical component for the pool and be able to work with delivery driver
Must be able to keep a record and log on pool activity and chemical use
Must be willing to enforce pool safety
Willing to perform other duties to assist the facilities department including working with maintenance, Custodial and grounds employees to make repairs and to perform projects
Must be able to communicate with management in order to resolve problems and to best assist the end-user

Job Description Summary:
This position is a 100%, 12 month, classified position reporting to the Director, Facilities and Modernization
BASIC FUNCTION:

An entry level position performing a variety of skilled facility maintenance and repair work on District buildings under immediate direction and/or guidance from Facility Maintenance Mechanic. This position is supervised by the Director, Facilities and Modernization, or designee. Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This is an entry level class in the Facility Maintenance Mechanic Series. This class is distinguished from the Facility Maintenance Mechanic I by the performance of basic tasks and duties meant to assist higher classifications within this series. Employees at this level are expected to perform duties with some independence on matters related to established procedures and guidelines. Employees are expected to actively engage in learning, acquiring, and developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a Facility Maintenance Mechanic I.



Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are expected to be at an entry level for this position.

Knowledge of:
Common tools and materials used in assigned areas of responsibility
Basic maintenance procedures and practices
Safe work practices and policies
Common hand tools, grounds maintenance equipment, and vehicles
Cleaning and disinfecting chemicals used on the maintenance field
Operating a computer and associated software programs, such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Skill in:
Operating a variety of tools and equipment used throughout the District
Operating a motor vehicle, lift trucks, and high/boom lifts.

Ability to:
Perform a full range of entry level tasks involved in a variety of building
maintenance, repair, and operation activities.
Safely drive and operate power equipment and hand tools involved in building
maintenance, repair, and operation.
Maintain a variety of tools and equipment.
Read and work from sketches, blue prints, or drawings.
Maintain records including time and material use records.
Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Essential Duties:
The duties below are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title. The employee will assist in the following duties:

Install new plumbing; maintain, repair, and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closets, urinals, water regulators, and pressure valves; repair boiler and boiler piping and pumps.
Maintain, repair, and replace electrical systems including light switches, outlets, interior and exterior light fixtures, electrical panels, and card readers; replace light bulbs.
Install and repair door lock sets; rekey locks and padlocks; cut keys.
Perform carpentry and trim and finish work; frame walls, doors, and windows; build or remodel offices; replace doors and windows; build or assemble cabinets, shelving, and furniture; hang, tape, and texture drywall.
Perform painting work; prepare and paint or stain interiors, exteriors, and furniture of various materials.
Performs welding, masonry, flooring, and general repair work on buildings and furniture.
Performs tool, equipment, and vehicle repair and maintenance.
Operate heavy equipment as needed.
Monitor and update HVAC control program.
Maintain records of work performed.
Perform related duties as required.

Education and Experience:
ILLUSTRATIVE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way to obtain the above knowledge and skill is a combination of education and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma
One year of general maintenance, custodial, grounds and/or facilities experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should know the basics of pool operation and have available a pool operator certificate or be willing to acquire one as soon as possible.

Salary Range:
Range 34: $47,616 - $60,792 annually
