Overview
Employment Status: Full-time, temporary, "exempt," with possibility of becoming permanent.

Work Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Typical Activities
Under the supervision of the Director of Digital Transformation, the UI/UX Designer will provide designing, branding, coding, and functionality feature services to the department, division, and university.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following job duties:
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • Create custom themes and extend existing themes.
  • Utilize HTML5, CSS, and a variety of other tools and programs to develop designs from scratch, modify existing, third-party designs to remain consistent with university branding standards.
  • Collaborate with web developers, programmer analysts, graphic designers and project managers to create engaging, accessible interfaces on a variety of platforms for end users to interact.
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards across multiple platforms.
  • Present designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders.
  • Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user-friendliness to complex design roadblocks.
  • Create Drupal and WordPress themes
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering, including building front-end assets (HTML/CSS).
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have the following:
  • BA/BS degree, or equivalent form a four-year college or university in a job related field
  • At least four years experience working in the area of web design
  • Proficiency understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Proficiency understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Deep knowledge about a wide array of plugins and base themes
  • Demonstrated ability to create custom themes, and/or extend existing themes
  • Good understanding of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as NodeJS
  • Proficient in image authoring tools such as as Illustrator or Photoshop
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Proficient understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
