Job Description:
OFFICE: SUNY Charter Schools Institute
FUNCTION & SCOPE: The SUNY Charter Schools Institute is responsible for evaluating proposals for new charter schools, and the continuous monitoring of student academic performance, fiscal soundness, and overall school operations of 230+ SUNY Authorized charter schools. The Associate Director of Evaluation is responsible for supporting the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of charter school performance as well as the evaluation of new charter applications.

Specific Duties will Include:
  • Develop the Institute's renewal and evaluation season strategies by identifying the necessary visit protocols, establishing visit schedules, and managing the identification of external consultants.
  • Support the Institute's continuous improvement by managing the creation and delivery of annual professional development sessions to evaluation team members.
  • Coordinate the appropriate flow of documents related to all school evaluation visits and visit teams.
  • Support the production of school evaluation and Renewal Recommendation Reports by monitoring the drafting process for alignment to Institute's writing practices and high standards for quality.
  • Supervise and provide coaching to the three School Evaluators with additional functional responsibilities related to visit season practices and new application review.
  • Lead school site visits to conduct school quality reviews as part of the Institute's renewal and evaluation processes.
  • Participate in school visits as necessary to provide coaching to School Evaluators and support in communications with school leadership and boards.
  • Support the Director of Evaluation in writing and revising the charter school request for proposals ("RFP") and related guidance documents.
  • Support the Director of Evaluation in the composition, editing, and finalization of the Institute's analysis and evaluation of charter proposals, including accompanying letters and materials associated with SUNY Trustee approval for all new charter schools.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to prospective charter applicants throughout the process of writing and submitting charter school proposals and connecting them with resources and information necessary to develop high quality charter school applications.
  • Design and implement the Institute's "Year Zero" programming: systems and resources for supporting charters between the time they are granted and when schools open to serve students


Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:

  • Master's Degree in education, public policy/administration, research, or other relevant field with 4-5 years' experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Exceptional writing and data analysis skills a must.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and project management skills required.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and with multiple priorities also required. Proficiency with Microsoft applications required.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis to participate in school site visits a must.


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working in an educational setting is strongly preferred. For example, preferred skills include working in at least one of the following areas:
    • Teaching experience
    • Leadership/administrative experience
    • Experience working with students with disabilities; and/or,
    • Experience working with English language learners

  • Project management skills a plus.
  • Experience with data management and analysis and higher-level quantitative and/or qualitative skills strongly preferred.


Location:New York City or Albany, NY
Salary: $115,000-$125,000 depending on location and experience. Excellent benefits package.
