About the Position:
The Veterans Resource Center at California State University, Fullerton provides comprehensive services to military-connected students that support personal, academic, and professional success. We continuously engage with our students to meet them wherever they are and to guide them along their path toward success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Career Coordinator (Student Services Professional I-Range B). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the guidance of the Director of the CSUF Veterans Resource Center, the Career Coordinator will support the VetForward program by providing career-related guidance on an individual or small group basis to military-connected students and alumni, including assistance with internships and employment. The Career Coordinator will provide career development and career guidance to students in a variety of settings and coordinate experiential education and career readiness in support of the VRC and Vetforward. This position will provide career information, and job search skills training to military-connected students including active duty, national/state guard, prior service members (veterans), and military families (spouses/children). The Career Coordinator will also serve as a liaison between campus partners including, but not limited to, the CSUF Career Center and Center for Internships and Community Engagement (CICE), as well as off-campus local/regional employment organizations/resources. Assists with planning, developing, and hosting employment-related events and programs, including job fairs, employment seminars, and site visits to companies/organizations interested in hiring military-connected students. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience. Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management. Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.


A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:

Equivalent of one year of progressively responsible experience in career and employment services. Experience working with the military-connected community, including active duty, national/state guard, prior service members (veterans), and military families (spouses/children). Knowledge of career counseling; methods and procedures for seeking professional employment; strong verbal, writing, proofreading, editing and communication skills; knowledge of resume, memorandum, application letter, and cover letter formats. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and to organize work and meet deadlines. Demonstrated expertise in using office software packages, technology and systems to include Outlook, Word, Excel. Experience developing, planning, overseeing events and programs of various scales including, but not limited to, small workshops to large career fairs. Experience coordinating career education programs. Experience advising undergraduate students. Experience in career counseling, career advising, and career placement. Excellent communication, presentation, teamwork, and organizational skills.
