Responsibilities*
The Communication Studies Department of the University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor of Professional Communication to begin Fall 2019. We hope to attract candidates who will contribute to a diverse and growing department that highly values student centeredness, innovative pedagogy, experiential learning, and collegiality. ABD's are encouraged to apply. However, a doctoral degree in communication or a related discipline is expected at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate is expected to make a substantial contribution to our undergraduate program in professional communication, and will have a record of excellent college level teaching, enthusiasm for interacting with students, and a demonstrated potential to teach online. The professional communication emphasis area has a long tradition of client based pedagogy, and includes courses relating to public relations, advertising and organizational communication. Candidates who specialize in social media are highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be encouraged to add their own expertise to the undergraduate curriculum. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to the department's fully online master's program in applied communication.

Regardless of methodological approach, candidates must demonstrate a record of, or the potential for, publication in scholarly outlets. The department also values applied and pedagogical research. The department has a strong tradition of service to both the university and its surrounding community. Candidates with demonstrated potential for activities such as advising professionally oriented student organizations and assisting in coordinating internship opportunities are especially welcome to apply.
