Position Summary

The administrative staff is responsible for support of the History Department. The History Department conducts a full range of normal departmental activities. The Administrative Support Coordinator I position reports to the department chair and receives lead direction from the Administrative Support Coordinator II. The Administrative Support Coordinator I is responsible for a broad range of clerical and support duties. This position monitors the department's State and Foundation budgets, oversees the online faculty evaluation process, assists in faculty recruitment, and provides clerical and administrative support for the faculty and for the graduate advisor, as well as providing backup support for the Administrative Coordinator.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of History has 21 tenured and tenure-track faculty, an average of 15 lecturers, one Administrative Support Coordinator II and one Administrative Support Coordinator I, as well as work study and student assistant workers. It is one of the largest departments in the university, serving over 4,500 SDSU students every semester, including 200 majors and pre majors and 35 M.A. students. It also houses the Center for War and Society, the Center for Comics Studies, and the Center for Oral and Public History.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,505 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,508 per month.
