Responsibilities*
Customer Service: Provide total customer focus to meet the needs of every customer, internal and external, including medical staff, laboratory staff, patients, and families.

Specimen Processing - Bench Work: Has working knowledge of all benches. Direct, and assist staff with specimen processing, problem solving. Fill in on bench when necessary due to staff levels or high work volumes.

Personnel: Select evaluate and counsel staff. Plan, schedule, assign and review work of associate supervisors and staff. Work with training specialist to coordinate training and competency assessment of staff. Participate in activities that contribute to professional growth of self and individuals supervised. Monitor unscheduled absences, apply progressive discipline policies, and prepare/consult and conduct or participate in annual performance evaluations.

Quality Assurance/Regulatory Compliance: Develop and monitor quality assurance indicators and implement course correction when needed. Prepare for JCAHO and CAP audits and inspections. Assure compliance with all safety standards and participate in monthly safety meetings. Work with DQHI on any and all regulatory issues to ensure compliance ahead of inspection dates.

Communication: Communicate information to SP staff, testing laboratories, and SP Manager. Initiate and participate in daily huddles. Conduct/participate in project staff meetings. Participate in meetings with Lab Manager and other Supervisors. Schedule associate supervisor on-call assignments for weekends and holidays, taking assignments if staffing mandates.

Planning: Participate in planning for and implementing new work processes, including testing and training for new computer system implementation. Maintain current in all Pathology/Michigan Medicine computer systems. Contribute ideas and help implement changes such as workflow reorganization.

Monitor the use of equipment and maintenance of equipment when needed. Coordinate operations with other departments in regards to projects and laboratory standardization. Develop and maintain policies and procedures in the document control system.

Professional Development: Attend HRD courses, in-services, and/or meetings that contribute to professional growth.

Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

An Associate's degree in a related health science or equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 5 years of direct supervisory experience

Desired Qualifications*
Two years of clinical laboratory experience in a university setting, knowledgeable of CAP and CLIA standards and, familiar with LEAN concepts involving process improvement desired.

Background Screening
