General Description
Under the direction of the Provost of the COS Hanford Educational Center and the Director, Access and Ability Center, the Assessment Specialist will perform a variety of specialized duties related to the coordination, planning and implementation of assessment, testing, placement, and orientation in support of student services activities at the Hanford Educational Center. This will include, but is not limited to planning and implementation of program activities, providing students with information regarding test procedures and results, maintaining records, collaborating with other District campus offices and providing students with related information.
This is a Full-Time 12 month position.
Monday - Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Friday 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Initial placement is at $48,816.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Assessment Specialist include:
  • Provide to student's accurate information about educational and student support programs of the college; distribute information to students in various settings.
  • Provide information for general college preparation, financial aid, EOP&S and AAC, and other student activity and student support services of the college.
  • Explain the process for applying to college and seeking financial aid and other student support services.
  • Oversee testing processes and facilities at the Hanford Educational Center in cooperation with other District testing sites.
  • Coordinate schedules procedures, and requirements for testing AAC students as well as other proctoring duties; this will include working with faculty, oversight of testing activities and protocols, oversight of any student employees or proctors.
  • Administer a variety of tests to individuals and groups of students in the testing center in a wide variety of academic subject areas including math, science, agriculture, English, foreign language, music, history and other subjects.
  • Perform specialized duties related to assessment for college students that result in proper placement of students in reading, writing, mathematics, and English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum.
  • Plan, organize, and administer computerized and traditional pencil and paper assessment testing both on and off campus to large groups or on an individual basis, assist in the development of test schedules, assist students with proper test selection and monitor test site for appropriate testing atmosphere.
  • Operate software and databases necessary to organize and analyze data, generate reports, including but not limited to assessment, testing, orientation, student support services.
  • Understand the registration processes and make appropriate referrals for admissions, registration and related matriculation processes.
  • Communicate with college and District faculty and staff as needed.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware and software for testing, assessment, admission and registration systems.
  • Administer various testing, assessment programs as well as related outreach activities on and off campus by coordinating with other employees, designing publicity efforts, coordinating dates, schedules and facilities. Create records and retrieve data from various data base programs to compile statistics; evaluate testing programs and prepare special reports. Establish and maintain relationships with staff and District feeder high schools to implement the goals of the District.
  • Greet students, visitors, and others, and provide information and assistance regarding assessment, admissions, testing, financial aid and the various activities conducted in the Hanford Student Services office. Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
  • Perform other duties reasonably related to the job classification.



Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

Any combination equivalent to:
  • Completion of two years of college-level training and
  • Two years of increasingly responsible business/office experience.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Evening and weekend work
  • Travel to different work sites
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias

  • Prioritize work and meet schedules and time lines
  • Operate a variety of office machines and equipment including the computer, printer, scanner, and copier for the preparation and maintenance of a variety of documents, correspondence, reports, and related materials
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
