Assistant or Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering
(Tenure Track)

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applicants for at least one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering. Candidates applying for this position are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrate research capabilities that will enable the development of externally funded research programs, and produce archival publications in leading scholarly journals. It is highly desirable for candidates to have an undergraduate degree from an aerospace engineering program. A Ph.D. is required in Aerospace Engineering or a related field of engineering.

It is expected that the candidate will develop graduate courses in his/her area of research to complement the departmental growth as well as teach undergraduate courses in core areas of aerospace engineering such as astronautics, orbital mechanics, and/or spacecraft- and aero-design. All outstanding candidates possessing a strong background in fundamental science and engineering relevant to aerospace engineering will be considered, as at least one position is anticipated.

The College of Engineering is undergoing a period of substantial growth in both physical infrastructure and research expenditures as it seeks to become a Top-25 ranked Public Institution. The College presently has seven departments with 163 faculty, 3,340 undergraduates and 1,134 graduate students. The Department currently has 34 tenure track faculty and enrolls some 1,267 undergraduate and 194 graduate students. Departmental research expenditures are currently at >$10M per year. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at UTK and the surrounding region (UTSI, ORNL, AEDC, AMDEC, NASA-Marshall). Salary is commensurate with the position and experience of the applicant.
