Position Summary:
The School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor within the Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, with an emphasis in K-6 mathematics and science methods, beginning August 2022. This position requires teaching the equivalent of 12 semester hours of courses (day, evening and/or weekend classes), which may include instructional methods, curriculum, and assessment in K-6 science and math as well as foundational courses for teacher candidates in the Elementary Education licensure program, such as differentiated learning and assessment. The primary teaching responsibility for this position will include courses in mathematics and science methods for elementary education. In addition to teaching, the position requires service and scholarly activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum (75%)
  • Teach inquiry-based mathematics and science methods courses, including incorporating research-based practices for teaching elementary school mathematics and science as well as other courses in the department related to elementary education
  • Teach courses in person (on campus), hybrid, or completely online format (synchronous and/or asynchronous)
  • Supervise preservice teachers within a range of clinical experiences, including both fields and culminating student teaching and/or residency, in partner districts in the greater Denver metropolitan area
  • Advise preservice teachers during office hours and outside of teaching
  • Contribute to ongoing program evaluation and design
  • Foster collaboration with schools and community agencies
  • Collaborate with diverse colleagues within a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) to meet the educational needs of diverse students, including non-traditional, first generation, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, adult, military, second career, second chance, concurrent high school/college students, and students with mental health, learning, or physical differences


Research (10%)
  • Develop and implement a research agenda that includes publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations at peer-reviewed professional conferences
Service (15%)
  • Engage in service to the University and the profession at various levels
  • Other responsibilities as relevant to the mission of the School of Education and department


Required Qualifications:
  • ABD in Elementary Education, Teaching, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related eld with connection to elementary mathematics, science, and/or STEM/STEAM education.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate methods in math, science, and/or STEM/STEAM for K-6 students.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Elementary Education or in an area of curriculum and/or instruction related to elementary math, science, and/or STEM/STEAM education.
  • Three years of elementary school experience in teaching math, science and/or STEM/STEAM in educational settings serving K-6 students.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate methods courses in math, science, and/or STEM/STEAM for K-6 students.
  • Demonstrated experience in serving diverse elementary students and families.
  • Desire to work cooperatively with diverse groups, including outreach to and retention of students of color.
  • Willingness to collaborate with K-6 public schools in partnership activities.
  • Experience supervising preservice teachers at various levels of their professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience with online learning systems and/or virtual/remote teaching.
