Position Summary:

The Department of Environmental Studies is seeking an interdisciplinary teacher/scholar
with a background in landscape architecture, environmental planning, and/or conservation ecology for the position of Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (tenure-track), beginning in August 2024.

We seek a colleague with a commitment to engaging, interactive undergraduate teaching, emphasizing projects in the local community and a strong interest in Florida's natural environment. This position also includes an opportunity to engage with management of a nearby ecological and historic reserve (Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation's Preserve), with ample opportunities for field-based teaching and scholarship. Primary teaching responsibilities will consist of core and elective courses focused on the following topical areas - sustainable cities, environmental planning and policy, and green infrastructure - as well as integrating environmental issues into a course for the college's general education program.

Minimum Qualifications and Education:
  • Ph.D. in a related field
  • Preferred: Background in landscape architecture, environmental planning and/or conservation ecology
  • Teaching ability and experience
  • Knowledge of topics including sustainable cities, environmental planning and policy, and green infrastructure
  • Ability to engage with community and work with community partners
