Job Description:

Job Summary:

We seek a dynamic individual to join the Education Department, which is part of the School of Education, Human and Health Sciences, who has expertise in one or more of the following areas: reading, behavioral and emotional disabilities; autism spectrum disorders; inclusive settings, social emotional learning, universal design for learning including technology for individuals with disabilities. S/he will have a strong background in moderate and severe disabilities pedagogy, and knowledge of elementary and early childhood curricula and best practices across the grade levels. S/he will expand program offerings; grow enrollments substantially; lead school partnerships and significant new initiatives for the purposes of cutting-edge teacher preparation. S/He will also provide high quality instruction to the graduate education program, and who will teach and supervise in our graduate programs across all sites and locations, with priority being in Concord and Sturbridge. S/He will also work closely and collaboratively with the other education programs in supporting advising, orientations and open houses.

This position will require seeking grant opportunities and developing new licensure program opportunities.

Essential Functions:

• Teach a minimum of eight (8) courses (24 credits) annually to include select undergraduate and graduate courses offered by the SEHHS.


• Support undergraduate and graduate activities.


• Supervise students.


• Advise students.


• Assist in curriculum development.


• Work closely with Coordinator of Programs in Special Education


• Maintain close contact to and engagement with the special education laws, latest special education regulations, and up-to-date field of special education content.


• Remain active in research/scholarship.


• Engage in program development and innovation in special education/teacher education using the Common Core and state curriculum frameworks.


• Provide significant program leadership and service of the special education program including new site development.


• Hire and supervise adjunct supervisors at sites where teaching practicum class and work in collaboration with other staff in scheduling classes.


• Supervise and oversee all aspects of teacher education field experiences and practica at site locations.


• Establish and maintain community/district-based partnerships.


• Provide assistance for grants or other fundraising efforts as requested.


• Assist with the identification, compilation, and analysis of program assessment information.


• Demonstrate a significant external fundable program of research informing the field of special education teacher preparation that also advances the School's mission of education and its social justice, diversity and inclusive values.


• Engage in school, campus, and across site committee activities while also participating in community service activities in Massachusetts aligned with the University's mission.


• Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.


• Actively participate and be involved in representing the School in local, state, and national professional organizations.


• Maintain scheduled on campus office hours according to University policy.


• Attend faculty, department and University meetings.


• Assist the admissions office across multiple sites with student recruitment by participating in Open Houses and other admissions events, calling and writing prospective students and other activities as requested.


• Maintain an active presence on the campus including attendance at major University events (e.g. Commencement, Academic Convocation) and student events.


• Participate in University committees as assigned.


• Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety in the classroom.


• Stay current with best practices in teaching and learning.


• Understand the role of assessment in achieving specifically stated learning outcomes.


• Incorporate technology to enhance student learning.


• Understand and appreciate the University's mission, purpose and goals and the role of faculty in achieving those goals.


• Attend trainings as required.


• Perform any other job related functions as assigned by the University.


• Position will require traveling across the state.


• Successful experience with the use of technology, especially in blended courses.


• Leadership, problem solving, and excellent communication skills, the ability to entertain multiple perspectives and achieve consensus are essential to the success of the position.


• As Bay Path programs are increasingly blended and/or partially on line the ability and cheerful willingness to engage in high quality on line instruction is needed.


• A commitment to an environment that excites students about the fields of education.


• A commitment to active learning strategies, mentoring students, and collaborative scholarship, as well as flexibility in teaching different types of students is desirable.

Requirements:

• An earned doctorate (Ed.D, Ph.D.) or equivalent in Special Education Teacher Education/Special Education or a related field and be knowledgeable of State accreditation requirements strongly desired.


• Current teaching license strongly required.


• At least three years of successful PreK-12 public school experience as a classroom teacher or equivalent.


• Experience teaching in higher education, and conducting workshops/trainings.


• Experience supervising undergraduate/graduate students.


• A record that speaks highly of teaching abilities.


• Competence in planning, budgeting, and management of the department or program within prescribed fiscal constraints.


• Interest, initiative, and ability to develop and evaluate programs in the department.


• Fosters and supports positive atmosphere and environment.


• Supports and is a leader in the use of technology.


• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.


• Valid U.S. driver's license.


• Must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter.


• Must successfully pass safe driving course within 30-days of employment. Failure to successfully complete the course within the 30-day period is grounds for immediate termination.


• Driving required and must be able and willing to teach and commute across multiple site locations.


• Submit to and pass criminal offender records check (C.O.R.I.). and sexual offender records check (S.O.R.I.)


• If you operate a University owned, leased or personal vehicle at any time while performing your duties you must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual. You must have a valid driver's license and must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter. Additionally, you must report any driving offense, on or off company time, which causes a loss, suspension, or any other change in your license status. You must report this change within one business day of the offense. You can report this change to the Human Resource Department or your direct supervisor. Failure to do so can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.
