Job Description

Reporting to the General Counsel (Senior Associate Vice President) this position, under limited supervision of the General Counsel, this position acts as one of two full-time, in-house attorneys for the College. Primary areas of responsibility arc managing day-to- day litigation and administrative proceedings for the College, providing legal counsel to and working collaboratively with its clients including senior administrators across the College and specifically to Human Resources, Department of Institutional Equity, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to resolve legal-related matters This position is tasked with providing legal representation in federal and state courts and before federal and state agencies, and provides guidance internally to senior College administrators for implementing all applicable law and regulations. This position provides legal counsel, policies, contracts, positions, etc.

The Associate General Counsel covers additional duties when the General Counsel is not present, including attending President's Cabinet meetings, and reviewing agendas and attending meetings to ensure compliance with the Nevada Open Meeting Law. Collaborate with Nevada System of Higher Education management and counsel from other NSHE institutions as necessary. Participate in College and NSHE committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and 5 years of related professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to successfully handle complex litigation and per-litigation matters.
  • Ability to skillfully respond to complaints or inquiries from Board or Regents and government agencies.
  • Ability to provide reliable legal advice to senior management and diplomatically address management, faculty and staff issues and concerns.
  • Ability to interact constructively with all levels of management and staff, the Regents and other elected officials.
  • Ability to build cooperative and collaborative relationships at the College and NSI IE level.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to effectively address the wide variety of tasks and competing time constraints.
  • Ability to be flexible in moving between issues with the ability to adapt changing circumstances and unexpected issues that arise suddenly.

Starting Salary Range

Salary commensurate on education and experience.
