Center Administrator

The Center for Nature and Place at Prescott College

The Prescott College Center for Nature & Place was established to support and expand training for early childhood educators, pre-service teachers, administrators, and program directors in developmentally appropriate nature and place-based pedagogy. Founded in 2016 with support from the George B. Storer Foundation, the Center is housed in and integrated with Prescott College's Department of Education and Teacher Preparation.

The Center focuses on designing innovative nature and place focused college course curricula for Prescott College students in the Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education undergraduate and graduate programs. It also offers residential professional development institutes and outreach workshops that provide training and experiential learning opportunities for early childhood educators across Arizona and beyond, including the Summer Institute for Nature and Place-Based Early Childhood Education.

Description: The Center Administrator is the primary manager of operations for the Center of Nature and Place, at Prescott College, located at the PK-20 Changemaker Campus in Tucson Arizona. The Center Administrator also serves as an associate faculty member at Prescott College in the Early Childhood Education Programs. The Center Administrator reports to the Assistant Dean of Education at Prescott College.

Primary Administrator Duties:

  • Serve as the main center contact and community liaison.

  • Coordinate the facilitation of family and community collaboration.

  • Supervise the prekindergarten instructors at the PK-20 Changemaker Campus

  • Serve as instructional lead for teaching and learning in early childhood education

  • Assist with major events sponsored by the Center

  • Execute directives from program directors and assistant deans, as appropriate

  • Encourage Center staff and volunteer workers with health, welfare and sustainability practices in development and education.

  • Assist leadership with the production of public reports


Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Advise ECE students

  • Maintain a course load (teaching) in the early childhood education program (following the semester of employment)

  • Host ECE practicum students at the Center (following the semester of employment)

  • Service duties to the College as required by the Education


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education

  • Teaching credentials (early childhood education or early childhood special education)

  • Demonstration of culturally sustaining early childhood education practices

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Professional disposition toward the public and colleagues

  • Strong curriculum design, implementation, assessment and curation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment under deadlines

  • Strong leadership skills and problem-solving capacity

  • Substantial knowledge of local Indigenous environmental practices, as well as connections to local environmental organizations

  • Deep desire to work with young children, particularly those within communities disproportionately impacted by environmental issues

  • Experience working with prekindergarten students

  • Familiarity with the ECE/ECSE profession and the community it serves


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

  • A Master's Degree in Education

  • Grant writing/maintenance experience is preferred, but not required
