Position Summary:
Position Summary

The Custodial Supervisor (Custodian 4) is a full-time, classified position within Facilities Operations. This position will supervise assigned personnel performing various custodial duties at the North Seattle College campus. This position (per direction of the Director of Facilities), conducts training, assigns and schedules work, acts upon leave requests and recommends candidates for hire. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 11am to 8:30pm. .

Essential Functions

As directed by the Director of Facilities, the Custodian 4 (Supervisor):

  • Supervises, directs, and instructs employees in custodial and housekeeping duties.
  • Schedules and assigns work to employees: inspects and reports areas cleaned.
  • Coordinates schedule of assigned personnel.
  • Instructs employees in proper cleaning techniques and safety practices; maintains compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates the performance of employees against established standards and counsels them on performance.
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment in classrooms and offices in preparation for campus functions, classes and special activities.
  • Knowledgeable on floor and carpet cleaning techniques.
  • Lock and unlock doors and gates, buildings and windows.
  • Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate authority; report the need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority.
  • Budget review and assists in maintaining budgetary compliance.
  • Purchasing of custodial operations supplies and equipment.
  • Researches purchasing of large custodial equipment and then recommends purchases to the Director of Facilities.
  • When directed by the Director of Facilities, interviews personnel being considered for employment; makes recommendations to supervisor or manager.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning and polishing machines; clean tables, chairs and floors as needed.
  • Coordinates various collections of materials for recycling, composting and trash.
  • Inspects assigned areas: ensures that departmental/facility cleanliness standards are met
  • Issues and assigns work orders to custodial staff and completes follow up on the work.
  • Completes assigned work orders.
  • Meets with vendors to discuss new products.
  • Performs the duties of a Custodian 2 when necessary.
  • Responds to callbacks and overtime duties as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2-4 years of any combination of training and experience
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience supervising or directing others in large-scale housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance or custodial work.
  • Knowledgeable on current efficient cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment; safe use of operation of equipment and chemicals used in janitorial and custodial work, safe working methods and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to safely, efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials and equipment as assigned.
  • Customer Service experience; demonstrated ability to follow up on complaints, work orders and other issues.
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Green Cleaning methods.
