Arcadia University invites applications for a Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences beginning in the summer of 2023.

The Dean will have a rich record of academic leadership and proven experience with institutional planning; fiscally responsible management practices; advocating for faculty; a commitment to combating anti-Black racism and promoting justice, equity, and inclusion; promoting the liberal arts to internal and external constituencies; building consensus and community; a commitment to global education and citizenship; academic and personal integrity; and enthusiasm to lead the College into the future.

Working in close collaboration with faculty, the Dean will chart a course for the College of Arts and Sciences within the University's mission, vision, and Strategic Plan, and be an advocate and effective ambassador for the Arts and Sciences. The Dean will directly oversee 10 department heads and 20 undergraduate and graduate program directors and coordinators, and has primary responsibility for fostering an integrative, collaborative, and dynamic College. As a member of the Provost's Cabinet, the Dean will work in partnership with other senior administrators and will report directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. As a globally-oriented institution, Arcadia seeks globally minded faculty, staff, and administrators. The Dean will be a creative and innovative leader and an accomplished scholar who has a demonstrated record of effective management, cross-unit collaborations, program development, and mentoring and inspiring faculty toward excellence in teaching and scholarship.

    • the applicant's experience with supporting the needs of faculty/departments and building consensus and community;

    • the applicant's familiarity with supporting and building globally-focused educational opportunities; and,

    • the applicant's fiscal planning and budget management skills and accomplishments;



  • a curriculum vitae;

  • a statement of teaching philosophy and/or leadership philosophy; and,

  • the names, addresses (including email), and telephone numbers for at least five references which may include administrators, faculty, and community leaders.


The candidate must have a terminal degree (or equivalent professional experience) and a demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in a discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will have ideally achieved the rank of full professor, although those at the rank of associate professor may be considered. All offers of employment are conditional, based upon successful completion of a background check.
