Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Eleven-month position starting July 15, 2018. Department chairpersons serve four-year terms that are renewable by the Dean/Provost.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership for instructional, scholarly/professional, and service activities for an academic department, including the enhancement of faculty strengths and abilities through professional development via study, research, service, and participation in professional organizations; prepare and administer department budgets while attracting external sources; facilitate development and implementation of short- and long-range departmental goals; schedule and administer programs at both Macomb and Quad Cities Campuses; oversee management of Horn Field campus, the department's experiential campus; engage in student recruitment and retention activities and assess effectiveness and efficiency of departmental recruitment and retention efforts; manage initiatives aimed at student and alumni relations; provide evaluation of faculty as mandated; submit required written evaluations of faculty members to Dean for retention, promotion, tenure, and professional achievement award considerations as well as providing annual written evaluations of non-instructional staff members to the appropriate University offices as required; and make recommendations for the hiring of full- and part-time faculty members, civil service staff, and graduate assistants.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body), with at least one advanced degree in recreation, parks, tourism or related field. Candidates must have a record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service to support an appointment of full professor. Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in managing personnel, budgets, and facilities. Experience with dual campus programs; the accreditation process; recruitment/retention of students and faculty; assessment of student learning; online and distance education; and facilitating grants and other revenue sources. Evidence of technological literacy and professional involvement at the national or international level.

Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,332): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
