Position Summary:
The Director of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence reports directly to the Vice President for Global Diversity, Inclusion, and Intercultural Affairs and provides strong leadership, direction, and vision for the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence (OGDIE), with a clear strategy for success. Under the general, but limited supervision of the vice president, the Director will oversee the design, development, implementation, and assessment of campus-wide programmatic initiatives that promote all-inclusive global diversity, intercultural, and multicultural relations at Lamar University. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of diversity and intercultural competency training initiatives for the entire University, including faculty, staff, and student leaders. One of the major areas of the director's essential responsibilities is the effective management of the Men of Excellence Program and the UNIDAD Scholars Program. These two critical multicultural student retention programs are central to the University's overall student retention efforts.

In collaboration with the vice president, provost's office, academic deans, the office of human resources (HR), division of student engagement, and other appropriate campus constituents, the Director will develop and regularly conduct diversity and intercultural competency-enhancement training workshops, and seminars for the university campus community, in accordance with current diversity and inclusion Best Practices in Higher Education. The Director is expected to build and maintain ongoing collaborative relationships with other campus constituents to ensure the support and buy-in for the success of all OGDIE diversity and inclusive excellence initiatives, including diversity and intercultural competency training. He or she is also expected to cultivate meaningful relationships with various academic and administrative departments to promote a living, learning, and working environment that is inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of Lamar's multicultural populations. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected, and occasionally will be required to participate in programming activities and carry out other assigned duties on some weekends and evenings. Other duties may be assigned as directed by the vice president as necessary for the overall good of the division and the University.

Specific Essential Duties:
Provide leadership, direction, and vision for the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence with a clear strategy for success, and manages its daily operations, including staff, budgets preparation and management
In collaboration with other campus administrative units, academic departments, and student organizations, develop and offer year-round Diversity and Inclusive Excellence educational, cultural, social, and outreach programming initiatives, which are aimed at promoting inclusion, multiculturalism, pluralism, and enhancing intercultural competencies among students, faculty, staff, and administrators throughout the University community
In collaboration with the leadership of the various departments, divisions, and academic colleges on campus, regularly develop and conduct(both proactively and upon request for customized training sessions)purposeful diversity and intercultural competency workshops, seminars, and institutes for faculty, staff, and studentswith special focus on the following training opportunities: [New Student Orientations, Freshman Year Experience and Honors College Orientations, Cardinal Communities, Residence Hall staff Orientations, New Faculty and Staff Orientations; Deans' Council Retreats, Provost's Kick-Off, and Student Leadership Development Conference]
In collaboration with other campus constituents, develop, plan, and implement student-specific diversity and inclusive excellence related programs to fully integrate underrepresented, marginalized, and international students into the life of the University
Establish and execute annual and each semester Diversity and Inclusive Excellence strategic goals, with intended measurable outcomes
Develop, coordinate, and execute OGDIE Programming Master Calendar of Events for Diversity and Inclusive Excellence at the beginning of each semester
Provide effective management of the Men of Excellence Program and the UNIDAD Scholars Program
In collaboration with the vice president and the OGDIE staff, implement the existing comprehensive academically-centered curriculum for the two critical multicultural student retention programswith continuous measurable outcomes
Develop a comprehensive, continuous quality improvement-oriented program assessment system for regularly assessing all Diversity and Inclusive Excellence programs and events
Regularly assess all OGDIE programming initiatives for continued relevance, effectiveness, and success
Serve as the vice president's Liaison to various Diversity and Inclusive Excellence related committees and affinity groups
Develop and submit to the vice president, a written comprehensive annual Progress Report for OGDIE
Ensure that all student records are kept secured and confidential in accordance with FERPA and the university privacy policy
Serve as the vice president's representative to the campus and external communities on matters relating to Diversity and Inclusive Excellence as directed
Establish campus-wide, short-term and long-term Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training goals for each semester, along with intended measurable outcomes
In collaboration with the vice president, establish Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training Benchmarks for Lamar University
In collaboration with the campus community, develop and coordinate a dynamic and effective TRAIN-THE-TRAINER PROGRAM for the campus community
Periodically recruit members of the campus communityfaculty, staff, and studentsand train them to become members of the Lamar University Diversity and Intercultural Competency Trainers Team [DICTT]; coordinates the activities of the DICTT
In collaboration with OHR and other appropriate departments, develop a comprehensive annual or semi-annual campus-wide Master Calendar for Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training Workshops
Serve as a diversity and inclusion resource for student organizations, faculty, department chairs, and academic and non-academic deans as they strive to achieve inclusive excellence through the total integration of diversity into their curriculum's, co-curriculum's, instructional methodologies, and multicultural classrooms
Develop, plan, and lead a robust (a) Student Inter-Group Dialogue Program, (b) Faculty/Staff Inter-Group Dialogue Program, and Student Diversity and Inclusion Advocates Program
In collaboration with the vice president, prepare and submit annual OGDIE budget as requested; and manage the Office's annual budget to ensure responsible fiscal operation
Perform other duties as assigned by the vice president for the overall good of OGDIE and Lamar University.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
An earned bachelors degree in Inter-Cultural or Cross-Cultural Communication, Multicultural Communication, Race and Cultural Studies, Organizational Development and Training, or related disciplines
At least 5 years of direct (not related) experience in developing, planning, implementing, and assessing Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Programs
At least 3 years of experience of successfully managing an Office of Diversity at the level of a Director, with a record of success, preferably in a college or university setting
At least 3 years of direct (not related) experience in developing, planning, conducting, and assessing comprehensive Diversity and Inter-Cultural/Cross-Cultural competency training workshops, seminars, and other educational presentations, including Inter-Group Dialogue, with a record of success
Extensive experience working collaboratively with faculty, especially in the areas of diversity, inclusion, social justice, and intercultural/cross-cultural competency programming and training
Demonstrated experience in successfully managing staff and working with people from a wide variety of identities, backgrounds and professional roles
Ability to function as a team member
Significant experience in facilitating conversations about identity and engaging difference and inclusion
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and social media platforms
Knowledge of, and commitment to diversity and social justice related issues
Have strong experience in budget management

Sensitivity and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population, including LGBTQ, students of color, women, etc.
Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse groups
Excellent interpersonal relations skills
Must be a strong-team player within a small, but dynamic office
Ability to understand the needs and expectations of the university by working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community partners and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
A Masters degree from an accredited university in the areas above
Classroom teaching experience and professional experience working directly with faculty and academic administrators on curriculum and co-curriculum matters within the context of diversity and inclusive excellence
The interpersonal strengths of an open-minded, strategic, and creative thinker and active listener who can mediate diverse opinions to address shared needs
Knowledge of, and experience in grant-writing is a plus.
The communication and conflict-resolution skills needed to navigate politically-charged situations, resolve problems, build consensus, and to reconcile competing interests.
