Salary: The starting salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of all educational and administrative aspects of the Associate Degree Nursing and Licensed Vocational Nursing Programs. This includes planning, development, and administration of the programs in accordance with state, national, and College policies and procedures. This individual leverages their applied nursing experience in an educational setting to sustain a program of exceptionally high quality.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide academic leadership to faculty, students, and the institution that supports an active teaching and learning community among students and faculty.
  • Provide leadership in planning and administration of the Nursing program, including continuous course/program development, assessment, and evaluation including conducting Nursing program review and self-study on a regular basis.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating assessment of student learning outcomes and continuous improvement of the program curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain a process to ensure optimal communications with nursing faculty, as well as administrative and support staff of the College.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop, implement, and coordinate the Nursing program admission policies and procedures.
  • Support recruitment and advisement of nursing students, including student success planning.
  • Coordinate NCLEX preparation by providing information and preparation opportunities to students.
  • Develop class schedules along with room utilization schedules in collaboration with nursing faculty and the Dean of Applied Sciences.
  • Coordinate the submission of annual reports and accreditation reports to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN), National League for Nursing (NLN), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Board of Nursing, and other reports required by the College, local, state, or national accrediting agencies, including SACSCOC.
  • Oversee the orientation processes for all incoming nursing students, as well as for new nursing faculty.
  • Recruit, select, and oversee the nursing faculty, including new faculty orientation, ongoing professional development, and faculty evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain contractual arrangements with clinical facilities.
  • Ensure high quality program facilities and equipment that meets healthcare industry standards.
Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Applied Sciences in the preparation of the annual nursing budget and monitor expenditures throughout the year.
  • Consult with the Registrar in the review and approval of transfer credits.
  • Participate in the nursing advisory committees.
  • Maintain currency in nursing by participating in professional development activities.
  • Serve as the contact for nursing student complaint resolution and/or grievances.
  • Work cooperatively with the Center for Workforce and Continuing Education programming to ensure service to the needs of community health organizations.
  • Participate in Instructional Council and other voluntary and assigned college committees.
  • Assist in the marketing efforts of the nursing programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters (or higher) degree in Nursing
  • Hold a current license or privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience in a professional nursing educational program
  • Three (3) years of work experience as a licensed nurse
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers and educational technology
  • Represent the College in a positive manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public
  • Demonstrate creativity, energy, and self-motivation with strong organizational skills
  • Assume responsibility and effectively deal with problems, exercising good judgment when making decisions
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with instructional faculty, students, support staff, colleagues, and administration
  • Read, understand, and express self clearly and effectively in oral and written communications
  • Possess strong leadership and human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse populations and personalities
  • Possess a strong general knowledge of health occupations and the health industry
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends
