The Early Childhood Program Specialist 2 is a classified, 75%, 10-month cyclic position in the Child Care Center at North Seattle College. This position works under general supervision and directs the daily educational activities of children including presenting developmentally appropriate materials, providing child development information to parents as necessary and adhering to licensing standards.

Essential Functions:
  • Direct children in educational activities as well as during lunch, nap time, free play time, field trips, outdoor time and transition between activities.
  • Assist Specialist 3 in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and healthy teaching/learning environment.
  • Assist Specialist 3, program manager and other staff in assessing the progress of each child.
  • Receive visitors and telephone inquiries; explain procedures and program routine.
  • Provide supervision to children for specified periods when the Specialist 3, program manager or other staff are absent.
  • Works with and implements child care licensing requirements and regulations.
  • May supervise or direct the work of Early Childhood Program Specialists 1.
  • Should be able to lift 30lbs.
  • Change diapers following health department standards.
  • Administer medication and first aid; handle emergencies as they arise.
  • Prepare food for children, clean food preparation area, wash dishes.
  • Launder children's bedding as well as disinfect classroom toys.
  • Participate in all general staff meetings, parent/teacher meetings and other meetings as required by the Early Childhood Program Manager.


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • 30 college quarter credit hours in early childhood development/education/special education or equivalent AND one year of experience working in a group setting with children of the ages enrolled in the program.
  • Ability to work, both individually and as a team member, with people of diverse educational, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including children, parents, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate verbally (English) and in writing (English) with parents.
PRIOR TO HIRE
  • Must provide documentation of negative TB test results
  • Must successfully pass Criminal history/child abuse background check
  • Current certification in child First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • HIV/AIDS/ Blood borne Pathogen training
  • Child Abuse and Neglect mandate reporting training
  • Current Washington Food Service Worker permit
  • Food Safety and Sanitation training
  • Must complete 10 hours of ongoing early childhood training annually (STARS).
  • Must have knowledge of and implement State of Washington 'Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers WAC: 388-295
