The Early Childhood Program Specialist 3 is a classified, 100%, 10-month cyclic position in the Child Care Center at North Seattle College. This is a lead teacher position that works under general direction and has responsibility for regularly assigning, instructing, and checking work of others, and/or has responsibility for the daily operation of an early childhood program. Responsibilities include: establish & maintain a safe, healthy and developmentally appropriate learning environment; regularly plan, present & evaluate educational & recreational children's activities; communicate with and provide information to parents; develop & maintain a classroom environment that meets child care licensing regulations & applicable policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Assess the social, intellectual, emotional, nutritional, and physical needs of children enrolled in the child care program; develop child- and adult-directed educational activities based upon assessed needs
Regularly plan, present, design and evaluate developmentally appropriate educational materials and activities for specific use with children in the program
Uses positive guidance methods to support a positive social and emotional learning environment
Incorporate cultural awareness and diversity into the classroom curriculum
Post weekly curriculum plans for parents and co-workers.
Assess individual children's learning levels; monitor and record level of development and progress of each child
Communicate with parents regularly. Discuss progress of the children with their parents and respond to parent's concerns; design individualized educational materials/plans
Be familiar with and implement child care licensing requirements and regulations
Maintain a healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environment for children in program. Follow health department standards and center policies and procedures
Receive visitors and telephone inquiries. Provide information about the program to prospective and current parents relating to program philosophy, procedures and routines
Attend staff meetings, parent/teacher meetings and other meetings/staff trainings as required by the Manager.
Work collaboratively with co-workers to share complete and accurate information, techniques, instructions, and feedback. Use more than one method of communication as needed.
Participate in on-going professional development and maintain current knowledge of the early childhood field
Participate in the planning and implementation of program activities and projects
Effectively manage time to meet required deadlines and work schedules
May provide input to grant applications
May inventory/order/organize materials for classroom use
May supervise or direct the work of classroom staff and volunteers
May need to be able to lift 50lbs.
May administer medication and first aid; handle emergencies as they arise
May prepare food for children, clean food preparation area, wash dishes
May launder children's bedding as well as disinfect classroom toys
May be responsible for the opening or closing of the child care program.
May be responsible for the child care program in the absence of the Manager.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities:

45 college quarter hours in early childhood development/education/special education or equivalent, or Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) AND two years of experience working in a group setting with children of the ages enrolled in the program.

Ability to work, both individually and as a team member, with people of diverse educational, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including children, parents, staff and the general public.
Ability to communicate verbally (English) and in writing (English) with parents.

PRIOR TO HIRE

Must provide documentation of negative TB test results
Must successfully pass Criminal history/child abuse background check
Current certification in child First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
HIV/AIDS/ Blood borne Pathogen training
Child Abuse and Neglect mandate reporting training

Current Washington Food Service Worker permit
Food Safety and Sanitation training
Must complete 10 hours of ongoing early childhood training annually (STARS).
Must have knowledge of and implement State of Washington 'Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers WAC: 388-295
