Overview

Employment Status: Full-time, "Non-Exempt", Temporary position.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some evenings and weekends may be required.

Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be

Typical Activities

Under general supervision, the incumbent will independently perform a variety of skilled preventative and general maintenance repair, construction, and renovation work on facilities and mechanical systems within Serrano Village, Arrowhead Village and University Village. Typical duties include but are not limited to repairs on electro-mechanical systems, HVAC systems (water source heat pumps, A/C units, gas fired furnaces, variable frequency drives, cooling towers), plumbing, lighting systems, kitchen appliances, carpentry work, drywall and painting, motors, pumps, card access systems, general door hardware and locksmith repairs, low voltage control systems, water heaters and boilers, other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Methods, materials, equipment and tools in related trade areas pertaining to facilities, systems, construction and renovation

Computerized maintenance and building automation systems

Applicable building and safety codes and regulations related to facilities, systems, and renovations

English grammar, spelling and punctuation and the ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions at a level appropriate to the position.

Ability to:

Use considerable judgment and discretion in performing duties

Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawing, and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation work

Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations

Read and write at a level appropriate to the position

Effectively and accurately maintain records, retrieve data, and prepare standard reports using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems

Interact and communicate in an effective and dependable manner, as well as establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clientele such as students, staff, faculty and co-workers.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade OR any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.

Existing CSUSB employees will receive preference.

Duties may involve the use of a state vehicle which requires possession of a valid California driver's license and the successful completion of the campus Defensive Driving examination.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-60 lbs.; must be able to carry loads ranging from 20-50 lbs. for distances up to 20 feet; must be capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; depending upon the project, employee may spend 20-50% of day sitting, 20-50% of day standing, 20-50% of day walking.
