Government Affairs Coordinator

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs, the Government Affairs Coordinator aids the Government affairs team with MSU Denver's advocacy efforts; including the strategy and management of MSU Denver's advocacy program.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides support to the Director of Government Affairs related to continued legislative outreach for MSU Denver.

Manages the MSU Denver Champions, the Universitys advocacy program. This may include social media management, event planning, relationship development and content creation. This will include coordinating expansion efforts with the Director.

Develops a wide range of materials in support of MSU Denvers government affairs agenda, such as
talking points, legislative summaries, factsheets, testimony, reports and letters. Provide input to the
the Director to ensure appropriate communications related to the organizations legislative
agenda, including internal communications.

Staffs legislative team meetings to ensure follow-up and accountability, taking minutes and providing reports. This may include staffing the President and other University spokespeople both locally and nationally.

Research, monitor, analyze, and evaluate legislative issues that may have an impact on MSU Denver.

Provides staff support and information about legislative issues to senior campus leadership, faculty/staff, students and volunteers.

Manages legislative events, including an annual legislative reception.

Keeps informed of issues that may affect MSU Denver by monitoring business and legislative news in media and reports of legislative sessions and other governmental agencies (e.g., meetings of Colorado Department of Higher Education and Colorado Commission of Higher Education, etc)

Identify advocacy opportunities and develops channels for engagement, participation and information-sharing with stakeholders.

Work with MSU Denver policies and procedures and adhere to fiscal monitoring systems.

Work with MSU Denver counsel to manage the organizations compliance with state and federal
lobbying laws and regulations

Helps manage relationships with city, state and federal officials and their staffs.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Communications, or related field.
Experience in public relations, public affairs or government relations.
Demonstrated experience in a wide variety of writing; including speechwriting, position papers, legislative testimony, legislative alerts and fact sheets.
Experience working in compliance with institution or organizational policies and procedures.
Experience working with volunteers.
Experience using social media best practices, search engine optimization, search engine marketing branding and market research techniques and practices.
Experience working in collaboration with campus or community constituents to create/implement a program or initiative
Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, team building and resourcefulness to establish and maintain collaborative, positive and effective working relationships with multiple and diverse constituency groups.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in working in a highly collaborative work environment and working with Level C executives and elected officials.
Experience working and communicating with elected officials on every level.
Demonstrates the ability to give oral presentations that tell the MSU Denver story.
Excellent communication skills sufficient to express ideas and agreements concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of constituencies.
Proven ability to multi-task, balance multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, team building and resourcefulness to establish and maintain collaborative, positive and effective working relationships with multiple and diverse constituency groups.
Experience with social media management such as Facebook pages and groups, live Tweeting and Instagram posting.
