JOB SUMMARY:


The Instructional Technologist provides course development support to assist Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and academic Program Directors (PDs) in creating innovative, engaging online courses. This individual works collaboratively with academic and technology teams to identify, assess, implement, and support appropriate technology applications. This individual will contribute to enhancing existing online courses, building content within various platforms, and incorporating new technologies into the University's Learning Management System (Canvas). In collaboration with PDs and SMEs, this individual ensures course structure meets organizational standards for quality and design. This individual also contributes to resolving student and faculty technical issues in a timely fashion. The position reports to the Director of Instructional Design & Faculty Development. This is a part-time, temporary staff position funded by the Strada Education Network grant. There is a possibility of contract renewal, pending grant funding. Candidates local to Springfield, MA preferred; remote options possible.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Work collaboratively with Program Directors, Subject Matter Experts, and Academic Technology team members through the online course development process, from initial brainstorming stages, such as recommending technology tools, to final implementation of tools in online platforms.

  • Identify, assess, test, deploy, and support instructional technologies across various platforms.

  • Serve as a resource for content entry, course building, and technical editing.

  • Assist in the development of video and text-based tutorials to assist students and faculty in using third-party tools, the LMS (Canvas), and adaptive technology.

  • Serve as an expert for standard course development templates.

  • Provide consultations for educational technology tools and their applicability to online, adaptive, and blended courses.

  • Communicate with external vendors, in collaboration with the Director of Instructional Design and Faculty Development

  • Required to update tracking tools on a daily basis using standard tagging and coding mechanisms.

  • May be required to attend and participate in meetings to review current and new projects.

  • May be required to attend and participate in conference meetings, as needed, with subject matter experts, as well as faculty and staff.

  • May be required to attend trainings.

  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.



Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Analytics or a related field required.

  • Experience in a higher education environment, preferably in an instructional design or instructional technology role.

  • Experience with building online course content within learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience with educational technology and content development tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Google Apps, Snagit, Captivate, Camtasia, and e-learning authoring tools.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks. according to established deadlines.

  • Skills in gathering and processing information to provide technology support to a variety of stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in teaching or training situations to a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA and HIPPA guidelines.

  • All new employees must complete the FERPA and Anti-Harassment online trainings within 15 days of employment.

  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
