About Department of Chemistry:

The Department of Chemistry engages students at the graduate (MS) level and the undergraduate level, including involvement of students from the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science, a nationally-renowned residential high school. With 22 faculty members, over 200 undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry majors, and over 25 active Master's students, the department seeks to actively engage students by presenting challenging academics and opportunities for research in a variety of disciplines, and modeling good scientific practice. The department has a large general chemistry program servicing approximately 750 students each academic year. WKU has a new science building, Ogden College Hall, opening in January 2018 with generously-planned space for an excellent General Chemistry and service course laboratory program. The college also has a variety of instructional spaces that may accommodate numerous teaching styles.

Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry in the Ogden College of Science and Engineering at WKU invites applications for a full-time, permanent, 9-month, non-tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Instructor, starting in August 2018. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the freshman and sophomore levels, play a significant role in the implementation and management of General Chemistry laboratory programs in the department, and serve on Department and University committees appropriate to their expertise and interest.

The Department of Chemistry and Ogden College of Science and Engineering are fully committed to increasing the diversity of the WKU community. Qualifications:

  • Master of Science or earned doctorate in Chemistry or Biochemistry

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching courses in introductory and general chemistry

  • Evidence of experience in a supervisory role

  • Evidence of ability to work and communicate well with diverse groups of students and fellow faculty
