Job Summary / Basic Function
Job Summary: Provides instruction for students enrolled in English & Developmental Reading and Writing courses in the General Education and Developmental Studies department. Must be competent to teach college-level English courses, as well as developmental reading and writing classes for those students who have not passed the reading and writing portions of the state's mandated Texas Success Initiative Assessment. This faculty member will teach college-level courses that are part of the Core Curriculum Assessment.

Major Essential Job Functions:
  • Advise, tutor, and recruit students.
  • Maintain on campus office hours.
  • Teach classes during the fall, spring, and summer semesters as required by the department (May include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School).
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills.
  • Awareness of national issues and trends in education.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed.
  • Be willing to develop skills necessary to teach online courses.
  • Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Perform related duties as required.

    Secondary Essential Job Functions:
    Additional duties include advising, tutoring, student counseling, recruiting, and registration. Use of technologies such as Blackboard, Starfish and Banner is required. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and summer classes on the LIT campuses and at our Early College High School campuses in Beaumont and/or Silsbee.

    Other Duties as Assigned:
    Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the Institute.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum Education Required:
    A Masters degree in English or a Masters degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English.

    Minimum Experience Required:
    A working knowledge in Microsoft Office Applications is required. Community college or technical college teaching experience in English is preferred.
