Position Description
Contributes to the university's mission through teaching and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions
The Department of Teacher Education in College of Education at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time (12-month clinical appointment), instructor position in Teacher Preparation.
  • Teaching & Coordinating
    • Teach online courses as needed (no more than 4) annually, including 1 section of the Intro to Teaching or Student Teaching course (depending on the semester) *resources/training/support will be provided.
    • Maintain regular communication with administrators, Leadership Teams, and online instructors through weekly conference calls and program meetings.
    • Host weekly, online, office hours for teacher candidates.
  • Supervision of Teacher Candidates
    • Supervise a cohort of 20 teacher candidates in the Tech Teach programs.
    • Conduct weekly walk-throughs to collect data and provide ongoing support to teacher candidates.
    • Conduct a prescribed number of performance assessments of teacher candidates in the cohort.
    • Ensure timely and accurate entry of all data including performance assessment ratings and video capture.
    • Use data to support candidates mastery of teaching competencies.
    • Organize and provide specialized workshops for teacher candidates based on effective standards of instruction.
    • With the partner district, collaborative plan and administer a K-12 summer school program taught with support from Tech Teach candidates.
  • District & School Sites
    • In collaboration with Waco-area districts, assure the quality of the district-based Tech Teach Program with particular emphasis on the measureable quality of graduates.
    • Collaborate with district and school administrators, to select high-quality mentor/supervising teachers.
    • Conduct monthly supervising teacher/mentor training with support from the professional development facilitator.
    • Participate in the recruitment of new teacher candidates in concert with the Office of Student Services.
  • Professional Development
    • Attend College Faculty and Program Meetings to contribute and share evaluation ratings of TCs.
    • Work with your PDF to identify focus areas for your professional development and pursue them.
  • Professional Conduct
    • Follow all rules and guidelines established by the district for acceptable professional conduct and dress.
    • Establish and maintain mutual respect, trust, communication, and confidentiality with teacher candidates, School and District personnel.
    • Maintain a frequent, recurring presence in the school sites.


Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate's intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in an education-related field.
  • Experience using data in a classroom setting.
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Experience coaching and providing feedback to adult learners.
  • Successful experience designing and conducting Professional Development for teachers.
  • Living in or near Waco, Texas, or willing to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification and experience in teaching in an elementary bilingual public-school setting.
  • Commitment to earning a terminal degree at TTU at no cost.
  • Administrative experience at district or school level.
  • Experience working in schools with diverse student populations.
