Position Summary
The Instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will primarily teach a selection of the upper division laboratory offerings in the department based on their area(s) of expertise, which could include analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, and/or physical chemistry laboratories.

As workload permits, the instructor will also contribute to lower division course offerings. This is a non-tenure-track position.

Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.


Essential Functions
The Instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will be expected to prepare curriculum with corresponding faculty members, collaborate with the staff to plan laboratory preparation, and teach upper division laboratory courses. The upper division laboratory offerings span the specialties of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry (both thermodynamics and quantum mechanics), and inorganic chemistry (including synthesis and characterization).

As workload permits, the instructor will also be assigned lower division courses to help serve the current needs of the department. Instructors, in collaboration with faculty in specialty areas will develop and implement the curriculum in alignment with our ASBMB accreditation and ACS degree certification.
Instructors must be able to work collaboratively with department faculty and staff members to ensure that standard curriculum outcomes are met.

Instructors must adhere to all UIW policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course, and implementation of all safety laboratory standards.

Required Education
Masters degree in Chemistry, biochemistry, or related field AND at least 18 hours of graduate level coursework in chemistry or biochemistry.


Required Work Experience
Experience teaching chemistry or biochemistry laboratory courses.

Experience working with students.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching upper level undergraduate or graduate laboratory courses.
