Purpose of Position
Installs and tends to sprinkler system that irrigates lawns, fields and landscapes.

Essential Functions
Digs trenches.

Installs and repairs pipes, sprinkler heads, and valves in assigned areas.

Purchases and inventories irrigation supplies, machinery, and equipment.

Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator.

Analyzes and resolves irrigation problems, or assists workers in solving the problems.

Lubricates, adjusts, repairs and/or replaces parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains to maintain system.

Converts irrigation system from manual or hydraulic to automatic system.

Operates back hoe, bobcat, dump truck, and forklift.

Shovels dirt into holes and low spots and removes obstructions.

Observes rate of flow and adjusts valves accordingly.

Sets timer on automatic irrigation system.

Operates any existing manual or hydraulic irrigation systems.

Designs sprinkler system layouts for maximum water distribution on lawns, fields, and landscapes.

Performs duties of Groundskeepers I and II, when needed.

Complies with city water conservation program.

Must be available on an "On Call" basis.

Overtime may be required.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

One years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional travel to off-campus
UTEP sites may be required. Irrigator System Design and Installation Certificate; Backflow
Prevention Maintenance Certificate; MaxiCom Certificate.

sit. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to use Personal Protective
Equipment to include: Steel toe or Non-slippery shoes, rubber or leather gloves, eye protection, back belt, cover alls,
sunglasses, and straw hat.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
