Position Summary

This is a part-time (50%) position that is funded for $25,000 - $27,500 annually and includes benefits. This is a grant-funded position, funding is up to renewal every two years.

The King County Workforce Education Outreach Coordinator is a part-time and exempt position. The position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Workforce Education at the Seattle Colleges District Office. The Workforce Education Outreach Coordinator serves as a liaison representing Community and Technical Colleges (CTCs) to the business community, workforce agencies, and community based organizations and intermediaries. The primary responsibility is to represent the CTC workforce programs at all King County Rapid Response Team and community events. This position also provides colleges with monthly status reports and regular summaries of Rapid Response Team and other WE activities. The focus is to market all King County WE programs and act as a CTC resource. This position represents all King County Colleges and Workforce programs including Worker Retraining, Opportunity Grant, Basic Food Employment and Training, WorkFirst and unemployed, under-resourced youth at larger Rapid Response and other smaller layoff events, and at other marketing/outreach opportunities. The Workforce Education Outreach Coordinator works closely with agencies including Employment Security, the Seattle/King County Workforce Development Council, the King County Labor Council/Worker Center, the WorkSource CentersAffiliates and Connection Sites. Work hours will be mutually agreed upon with the successful candidate.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Washington.

Essential Functions
  • Represent all King County Colleges equally and work in close collaboration with the colleges and the King County Workforce Education Council which represents all college interests.
  • Represent all Seattle/King County Colleges and Workforce Education programs at all King County Rapid Response lay-off meetings.
  • Develop, implement and disseminate monthly Rapid Response reports to include specific demographic and lay-off information to assist CTC staff in providing increased and targeted services for Rapid Response employers and workers.
  • Represent the King County CTCs at college fairs and other appropriate outreach events, in coordination with King County WEC members.
  • Attend quarterly Workforce Education Council meetings, when possible.
  • Develop, maintain and distribute marketing materials. Ensure all WorkSource marketing options are optimized.
  • Develop, maintain and update Workforce Education contact and program information and distribute electronically to Workforce partners at least quarterly.
  • Provide regular feedback to colleges on their websites/marketing literature with respect to the needs of the Workforce populations.
  • Coordinate information meetings of college Workforce staff.
  • Represent CTCs at various community activities such as job fairs, employer, college and/or WorkSource sponsored events or as requested by the consortium.
  • Provide the King County colleges with updated reports on all pending lay-offs at Boeing and other major area employers.
  • Monitor monthly and provide feedback to the King County Colleges on the availability of their marketing materials at various WorkSource sites and other community locations.
  • Provide a quarterly report to the King County colleges on work done, achievements made, new opportunities and current unresolved challenges.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Workforce Education.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of King County local Workforce system (WorkSource, UI, workforce education programs and funding) and local labor market trends.
  • Experience working successfully with diverse populations including dislocated workers, employers, labor and government agency officials.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent a wide range of stakeholder interests.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills - oral and written, including group presentations.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations professionally and diplomatically.
  • Intermediate computer skills to include, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to create basic marketing materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage list serves, distribution lists and large system communications effectively and professionally.
  • Requires substantial travel throughout King County. Must have reliable transportation and valid Washington driver's license.
  • Valid Washington driver's license.
