Job Summary/Basic Function:
Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to oversee all technical support for the College of Engineering at Lamar University. This support includes the management of department lab technicians, labs and providing support to students and faculty with academic and research lab projects, by overseeing the maintenance and updating all lab equipment and fixtures in classrooms and laboratories, maintaining inventory, and providing additional assistance as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • With faculty, oversee the safe work/operating procedures in the college of engineering labs.
  • Oversee training and inspections in our laboratories.
  • Oversee all research and teaching labs in the college of engineering.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the operation of computer in labs, offices, and classrooms, including software installation and update.
  • Oversee the departmental and faculty purchasing, ordering, and receiving and handling.
  • Assist faculty members and students in their research work.
  • Oversee maintenance of sufficient and accurate inventories.
  • Perform other jobs as needed for teaching and research assigned by the dean or designee.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
    Bachelors degree in Technology, Engineering, or related field required.
    Masters degree in Technology, Engineering, or related field is preferred.
    Three five years of experience in manufacturing and/or electrical/mechanical work.
    Good communication skills and ability to interpret oral/written instructions.
    Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts; materials testing concepts and mechanical engineering technology lab test equipment.
    Demonstrated of preventive maintenance and repair; Operational knowledge of wide variety of manual/power tools, machine/process control languages and components.
    Oversee/assist department technicians in the setup, operation, testing and calibration of analytical instruments, equipment, and related components.
    Demonstrated kills and experience in computer systems, including hardware and CAD/CAM software.
    Demonstrated experience with programming and operating CNC machinery, metrology equipment, and various other pieces of equipment.
    Demonstrated experience in IT setup, troubleshooting and repair and networks.
    A valid US drivers license
    Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally

    Currently authorized to work in US.
