Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) invites applications for one (1) Lecturer of Mathematics position, commensurate with qualifications and experiences, beginning Fall 2021.

Applicants should demonstrate teaching excellence and proficiency in any areas of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Math Education, Statistics or related fields. A successful candidate will have the desire to collaborate with students and faculty within the department and from other disciplines to support the mission of the University of the Incarnate Word.

Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.


Essential Functions
Duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching undergraduate level courses and contributing to the Departments mission.

Lecturers of Mathematics are expected to teach fifteen credit hours in the fall semester and fifteen credit hours in the spring semester.

Full time faculty are expected to be flexible, as course assignments are based on student and department needs.

Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in mathematics and/or statistics and consistent with the needs of the department, providing individual help to students during office hours, and participating in department, college , and university meetings and discussions.

In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in at least one field of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Math Education, or Statistics or related field.

The faculty member filling this position will have the knowledge to teach undergraduate courses in mathematics and/or statistics.

Must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Competence in the employment of instructional technology.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Ability to teach remotely/online if required to do so.


Required Education
Ph.D. OR

MS degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Math Education, or Statistics or closely related area with at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics or statistics, at the time of appointment.


Required Work Experience
Experience teaching at the college level.


Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience teaching at the college level.

Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.

Knowledgeable about pedagogy and teaching techniques, especially to first-time college students and students from underserved populations.

Significant experience with instructional technology and remote/online teaching technology.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
