Position Summary

Big Bend Community College seeks candidates for the position of Librarian for the Bonaudi Library. The Bonaudi Library offers a wide range of resources and services to assist students, faculty, and citizens of the college district to realize educational, personal, social, and employment goals.

This position reports to the Dean of Transitional Studies and works closely with the Director of Library Resources & eLearning and is responsible to provide library services and information resources utilizing both traditional and online methods. Collection of data, assessment, and utilization of findings to direct meaningful change are an integral part of the expectations for this position. This position requires a high level of self-direction. In order to meet the needs of our patrons, work schedules may include a combination of day and evening hours with occasional weekend hours possible.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties

Primary essential responsibilities include, but will not be limited to, the following:



  • Provide reference and circulation services.

  • Work collaboratively with college faculty; developing and coordinating the teaching and assessment of information literacy skills across the campus.

  • Develop, teach, and assess library skills sessions, subject-specific curriculum, orientations, and training in the use of information resources.

  • Work collaboratively with faculty whenever possible, taking primary responsibility for collection development/resource selection and assessment, supporting the college's instructional needs as well as focusing on broader issues including cultural enrichment.

  • Promote use of the library services and resources.

  • Participate in college committees and task groups as well as in statewide efforts especially with a focus on improving library services and the development and promotion of libraries.

  • Work effectively with colleagues, students, and other library users of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.

  • Commitment to professional growth and development and sharing what is learned.

  • Provide academic advising to students.

  • Other duties as agreed to with administration.



Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:



  • A Master's degree in Library Science or Library & Information Systems from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Knowledge of automated library systems (preferably Alma/Primo) as well as strong technology skills, especially in accessing and using digital/online resources.

  • Experience working with instructors as well as library users of varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, and abilities.


ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a librarian in an academic setting, especially a community college setting.

  • Ability and experience in providing readers' advisory services.

  • Demonstrated multicultural experience, for example: fluency in languages other than English (Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Korean), specific work experience, or literary/cultural/travel experience.
