    Purpose of Position
    Under minimal supervision and with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, The Instructional Design Manager (IDM) is on the Center for Instructional Design (CID) group, branch of Extended University (EU). The IDM oversees the instructional integrity, coherence, focus, depth and accuracy of academic online courses for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The manager within CID supervises Instructional Consultants as well as working jointly with other areas among UTEP. Reporting directly to the Director, the IDM works mainly with faculty of the academic colleges, programs directors, and staff with Extended University to ensure quality and access in online education to students.

    Essential Functions

    Alongside the Director, manages and coordinates online course development, production and third-party implementations.

    Plays a crucial role in promoting online instruction, assessing online courses, and ensuring the quality of online course delivery across UTEP.

    Responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective performance of unit by efficient utilization of time and staff.

    Ensures efficient departmental flows by assessing and coordinating appropriate staffing (e.g., staff assignments, faculty training, vacation calendars, etc.) and notifies Director of conflicts, as needed.

    Serve as a liaison between UTEP faculty members and instructional consultants. Responsible for training and supervising instructional consultants, as well as bringing professional development opportunities to the unit.

    Responsible for developing comprehensive training, operating procedures, and manuals for CID. In addition to co-facilitate staff meetings of operations personnel or confers with subordinate personnel to discuss operational problems or explain procedural changes or practices.

    Responsible for handling a wide variety of complex duties specifically related to instructional design and management, which involves frequent contact with faculty, staff, and Director.

    Ensures all information obtained, retained, created and/or assembled for the department is properly organized, filed and easily accessible to department staff.

    Works closely with the EU administrative staff in aligning processes, resources-planning and department goals with overall UTEP mission and vision.

    Remains current on online education and management discourse including extensive reading of the literature, educational activities, and networking. Stays up to date on current events in the educational arena to incorporate the latest, most effective teaching strategies into courses.

    Possesses knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

    Complies with all State and University policies.

    Other duties may be assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    Minimum Education required: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility and current enrollment in a Master's program.

    Minimum Experience required: Four years of related experience; consulting in the use of tools and techniques for the design and production of robust technology-based instructional solutions; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Proficiency in applying technology in two or more of the following areas: teaching/instructional design, instructional software design/production, graphics design/production. Proficient with web development tools such as Canvas, Blackboard, and any other LMS. Occasional travel required.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Preferred Education and Experience: Master's degree within area of assigned responsibility. Three or more years' experience in management or supervisory position. Scholarship and written publications are strongly encouraged.
