Job Summary/Basic Function:
Job Summary:
  • This position manages workers engaged in shipping, receiving and postal services.
  • The manager oversees the receiving, distributing, and shipping of parcels, packages and freight.
  • The manager consults and advises on proper mailing, shipping and receiving procedures and acts as a liaison between the United Postal Service, United Parcel Services, FedEx Express/Ground, or other courier services, and Lamar University personnel.
  • The department is also responsible for all inter-office, office-to-office, and building-to-building moves of furniture and equipment. The department provides boxes for office transitions and moves boxes and furniture to the new designated space.

    Major Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversees & supervises distribution of daily material deliveries.
  • Reviews incoming materials and receiving logs for scheduling of campus deliveries; ensuring proper storage of materials; obtaining inspection of damaged freight and preparing necessary claim forms; coordinating data input; verifying accuracy of receipts and shipments, as well as documentation of transactions handled by department personnel.
  • Reviews and logs work orders for scheduling based on need
  • Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a group of subordinates within a department including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.

    Secondary Essential Job Functions
  • Work requires contacts with coworkers from other organizational units of the University, primarily non-department heads, and students, vendors, and the general public. Resourcefulness is required to reach or adjust working agreements within departmental procedures and operating needs.
  • Focus on Customer Service:
    * Focuses on customer's needs and expectations. (Customers can be students, external constituents, employees, or university guests.) * Respectfully ascertains customer's needs and determines appropriate response. * Promptly responds by providing requested information, takes appropriate action, or refers customer to appropriate individual or department. * If further actions need to be taken, advises customers of realistic timeframes for a response to their request. * Follows up with customers on outstanding requests in a timely manner. * Tactfully explains to customers why their needs and/or expectations cannot be met if the university does not provide the requested information or services.

    Other Duties as Assigned
    Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    Minimum Education Required:
    Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two-year associates degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

    Minimum Experience Required:
    5 years of related work experience.

    Certification(s) Required:
    Forklift Operators License; Valid Class C Texas Drivers License

    Physical Requirements:

    Job Conditions:
    Works in both a warehouse and an office environment.
    General air-conditioned environment, but occasional exposure to cold and heat; occasional exposure to wet/dry environment; occasional exposure to noise and vibrations;
    Normal physical hazards office environment; occasional exposure to fumes/dust/odors
