Medical Informatics Librarian

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a Medical Informatics Librarian to provide instruction and research support to the students, faculty, and staff at the School of Osteopathic Medicine campus of the University of the Incarnate Word, as well as assisting with the health sciences librarian needs for other campuses served by UIW Libraries.

The SOM Library, located at Brooks City Base, is part of UIW Libraries. Working under direction of the Director of the School of Osteopathic Medicine Library, the Medical Librarian will contribute to the mission of UIW Libraries of advancing teaching, learning, research, and scholarship within the SOM learning community. This position may work evenings and/or weekends. Please refer to the AACOM (American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine) has a set of core competencies (Category 10) for more information.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA


Required Education
Masters Degree from an ALA accredited library and/or information science program. Foreign equivalent of said education will be considered.


Required Work Experience
-Two (2) years of experience developing and delivering information literacy within an academic library setting or a medical library;
-Experience in searching health sciences databases;
-Demonstrated experience developing and teaching information literacy and research methodologies in support of health / science related disciplines


Preferred Qualifications
-Four (4) years of prior experience developing and delivering information literacy and reference within an academic library setting or a medical library;
-Directly related experience working for a School of Medicine Library
