Description

DEFINITION:

To provide specialized assistance in the areas of technical support for the Radio and Television Departments. The position supports the equipment for aiding in supervision of audio and visual content production while ensuring proper compliance of FCC standards and guidelines for a low-power FM radio station (LPFM). This position will assume a lead role in assisting hands-on academic support to students and instructors in the radio and television programs.

This position is categorically funded for 5 years by the Strong Workforce Program. When funds are reduced or eliminated, the position will also be reduced or eliminated.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from an assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties


Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Basic operations, services and activities of a college multimedia lab. Various software programs such as Adobe Creative Suite 17, particularly Audition and Premiere, but also After Effects, Audacity, Pro Tools, and Reaper.
  • Audio, radio, video, digital media, social media and other modern communication resources.
  • Radio station automation software including Radio DJ.
  • Pertinent codes, laws and regulations of media and of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and low-power FM regulations.
  • Appropriate underwriting, sales, promotion, publicity and fund-raising efforts for LPFM operations
  • Various online content management systems, including WordPress and cloud-based drives (Google Drive, DropBox).
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Proper language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Appropriate and effective communication and listening skills.
Ability to:
  • Effectively utilize computer hardware/software or assigned instructional laboratories.
  • Learning general and specialized software pertaining to job.
  • Provide technical support to students, faculty and staff.
  • Provide technical support services to all students, staff and faculty across the campus.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both oral and written.
  • Inspect electronic equipment for repair.
  • Lift 30-50 pounds and sit for a prolonged period of time.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Sensitivity to and understand diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
  • Work cooperatively with students, staff, faculty and community.
Education and Experience Requirements

Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in radio television, broadcasting, communications or digital media production.

Experience:

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience, in the professional or college radio station preferred, or related multimedia production.
