The Network Administrator, reports to the Chief Information Officer/Director of Information Technology, and/or a designated supervisor in the course of his/her activities. The incumbent performs with confidentiality and professionalism the tasks of network administrator using advanced skill and knowledge of complex network topologies, designs, protocols, and a thorough understanding of the WAN, MAN, and LAN. The incumbent manages, expands, and maintains the tri-play (data-voice-video) infrastructure.

Essential Functions:
Oversees, manages, expands, and maintains the District's data-voice-video IP infrastructure; develops operational procedures, controls, monitors, and tightly secures the network.
Leads/drives planning, design, and implementation of the wired and wireless network infrastructure upgrades and expansions; installs data wiring; installs and configures routers, switches, APs, phones, etc.
Manages the District's core and edge network devices; implements a tight but flexible firewall security, routing, and VLAN switching
Leads/drives projects that support network security, business continuity, remote and mobile users, cloud integration, conversion to IP-based services, and higher backbone speed
Supports a hybrid PBX-IP phone system.
Supports and works collaboratively with the System Administrator as well as other IT personnel; provides leadership to the entire infrastructure team.
Develops, maintains, and shares critical network maps and documentations.
Supports technology expansion projects by provisioning a secure traffic pattern in the infrastructure.
Pursues the goal of building a "state-of-the-art" infrastructure and aligns priorities to meet the District's Technology Plan.
Exhibits extreme professionalism and courtesy while working with customers.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Requirements & Desirables:
REQUIREMENTS
  1. A Bachelor's degree with study in job related area and job related experience; OR
  2. Any combination of three (3) IT Advanced level professional certifications such as: CCDP, CCNP Voice, Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), MCSE: Communication or Messaging, Mitel Certified Engineer, and ITIL Expert certifications; AND
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and of community college students and the campus community

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in any of the following: network security management, NextGen firewall or Palo Alto Networks, VPN, Software-defined Networking, data-voice-video infrastructure equipment & wiring, Unified Communication, IP Phone system, routing, HP switching, and Ruckus wireless.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
KNOWLEDGE of: Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW) configuration, IP-phone system configuration, voicemail system configuration, routing protocols (OSPF & BGP), wireless system integration and management, mobile devices management, VPN, routing protocols, and switching. Familiarity with networking hardware, security procedure and policies, network and cabling standards, datacenter operations, and safety requirements. Internet sources to develop, extrapolate, and apply solutions to current problems.

SKILLS are required to: perform multiple technical tasks with continual needs to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: network troubleshooting and documentation; switching in the LAN and routing in the MAN; understanding of the WAN routing configurations; successfully leading complex projects through collaboration; training junior technicians.

ABILITY is required to: perform and manage a variety of tasks while effectively planning and managing priorities; quickly analyze problems and coordinate a solution. To work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and use equipment for a variety of purposes under different conditions that requires an understanding of various methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of similar types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of job related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team; working with interruptions. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
  1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  2. Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
  3. California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
  4. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands. CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY
Employees in classifications represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 and are required to comply fully with the SEIU/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Bargaining Agreement, including payment of union dues or charitable contributions. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. SEIU employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes 6.5% of his/her reportable compensation on a monthly basis.

SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: SEIU 750
Starting Salary Range: $6,191.25 to $6,826.63 per month (Step A to C). Normal entering step is Step A.
