About the Position:
The College of Natural Science and Mathematics is dedicated to the principle that teaching and research are intricately mixed and undergraduate research is an integral part of education. By combining quality classroom instruction, student involvement in research, and strong academic advising, we transform the student experience. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Operating Systems Analyst-Career. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Operating Systems Analyst administers the computing resources of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Provides network management, support, and consulting services to faculty, staff, and students on data acquisition or processing systems and procedures, selection of new instrumentation, interfacing to current data collection systems, and installation of new systems and procedures. Assists department with routine maintenance and repair of instructionally- and research-related equipment and computers. Collaborates Natural Science and Mathematics computing staff, campus Information Technology, and department Information Technology coordinator on computer related technical issues, rollouts, refreshes and network security. Repairs and maintains all department computers, printers, and plotters. Diagnoses and maintains hardware, databases, operating systems and applications for the department. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field PLUS two years of relevant full-time experience or the equivalent part-time experience. Eight years of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for the previously listed education and experience requirement. Functional knowledge of the specialty area demonstrated by an understanding and use of advanced principles and theories. Ability to integrate work related knowledge to address problems. Demonstrated competency in applying standard and non-standard technology applications and exploring and adapting changing technology. Ability to independently apply technical judgment, recognize problems, use reasoning and logic to establish possible causes, interpret and apply theories and principles, generate alternative solutions, and implement a plan of action for the best resolution. Ability to develop solutions where precedents do not always exist. Ability to be proactive, anticipate outcomes, and consequences of different approaches and make modifications to action plans. Ability to utilize reflective listening skills when working with others and interpret and communicate information. Assists others in completing assignments and provides work direction and training to others on new skills and procedures. Ability to plan and work on shared projects. Strong troubleshooting skills to respond to hardware and software problems. Possession of excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical knowledge to functional units.

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Sometimes requires working in laboratories that may have biological, chemical, or radioactive hazards.
