Basic Function:
The WPI Center for Project-Based Learning is a resource and hub for educators and researchers dedicated to increasing the development and effective use of project-based learning locally, nationally, and internationally. The Center is situated within the Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division of WPI and reports directly to the Provost.

The mission of the Center has three primary components, as follows:

  • To support excellence in project-based learning at WPI
  • To improve student learning in higher education by helping colleges and universities advance work on project-based learning at their institutions
  • To establish WPI as a world leader in project-based learning

    The Center offers an annual three-day Institute on Project-Based Learning, at which teams of educators from across higher education work intensively to further project-based learning on their home campuses. The Center also develops and delivers custom project-based learning workshops on other campuses in the US and abroad. Finally, the Center works with faculty and staff across the WPI campus to advance project-based learning through faculty development initiatives and scholarly outreach.

    The Operations Associate will provide critical support to the functioning and growth of the Center.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Implement and manage plans for the Institutes on Project-Based Learning that are offered through the Center, including event planning, coordination, and monitoring the work of various entities (e.g., IT, catering, print services, and residential services).

    2. Provide administrative support at all levels to Center staff and faculty, including high-level support with the following: managing budgets and processing expenses, producing materials used for consulting, coordinating faculty schedules for the Institute and consulting jobs, making travel arrangements.

    3. Provide marketing support to the Center, including drafting targeted correspondence, developing and maintaining a social media presence, and maintaining the Institute web site.

    4. Serve as the first point of contact for potential clients, placing a strong emphasis on client service.

    5. Work closely with the Director and Associate Director to develop and evaluate procedures and policies to ensure efficiency and a high quality of service to Center and Institute clients and prospective clients, Center faculty and consultants, and outside consultants.

    6. Provide evaluation support to the Center, including development and management of databases and developing processes, protocols, and schedules for data gathering, data management, and report production.

    Position Requirements

  • REQUIRED:
    * Bachelors Degree

    * Excellent management and organizational skills, with attention to detail

    * Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborator

    * Strong communication skills, especially writing

    * Ability to work in a self-directed fashion and an interest in taking initiative to contribute to the advancement of project-based learning and the development of the Center

    * Ability to approach and conduct work with cultural competence

    * Ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities

    * Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office Suite

    * Availability to be on site at WPI for the annual Institute during program hours (usually Wednesday through Saturday the fourth or third week in June)

    DESIRED:
    * Masters Degree in higher education administration, education, educational psychology, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or other relevant field or at least two years experience working in higher education or in a related field

    * Experience in assessment and evaluation

    * Experience in marketing, especially using social media

    * Ability to use WordPress
