Schedule will vary according to department needs. May be required to work alternate/compressed shifts and/or weekends. This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2019 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if program needs exist.

About the Position:
The Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Painter. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Working with a small crew of journey level painters, the Painter performs all aspects of the painting trade as required to maintain university facilities and support new construction activities. Assists the Supervising Painter in planning and estimating projects, developing material lists, and coordinating with other trades to complete projects. Assists in performing inspections for contracted construction and maintenance projects. Assists in the development of annual deferred maintenance needs for the university. Apply paint and other finishes per manufacturers specifications including: Surface preparation, patching, sanding and priming all surfaces as required; prepare rooms to protect property and occupants. Complete Appropriate cleanup of work areas. Cleanly and expertly cut-in walls, doors, jambs, windows, etc. Determine which type of roller (lamb's wool, synthetic, mohair, size, etc.) to use with the selected material to give the desired result. Spray various kinds of materials with different types of spray equipment. Select and apply different kinds of paint materials - oil, latex, lacquer, epoxy, etc. "Eye match" paint colors and use tints to achieve the desired results. Use scaffolding, ladders and planks, scissor and vertical lifts and aerial work platforms. Parking lot striping including layout of stalls, dividers, roadway markings, etc. and the use of appropriate application equipment. Complete drywall tape, mud and finish. Hang, repair and remove wallpaper. Other duties as assigned.




Essential Qualifications:
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience demonstrating achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of a standard painters apprenticeship program. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging. Thorough knowledge of applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California. Ability to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately, mix paints and finishes, and match colors. Ability to set up and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders. Ability to select the most appropriate materials. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials of painting work. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Works in a variety of indoor and outdoor construction site conditions with hazards common to this trade and working environment.Must be able and willing to use an air purifying respirator.Will carry Master keys
