Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for a Prospect Researcher and Data Analyst (Management Analyst 4). This person will work with Advancement Staff and the AVP for Philanthropy to research, prepare, and provide profiles and reports, both in-depth and otherwise, on potential and identified annual and campaign major gift prospects including individuals, private foundations, and corporations. Provides oversight of the database related applications by ensuring data integrity and providing leadership/training on the effective use of the software to others within the university environment.
Essential Duties include:
  • Proactively identifies new and high-level annual and campaign major gift leads and prospects through electronic alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, push technology, demographic searches, etc.
  • Prepares prospect reports for use by senior staff and development officers and serves as prospect tracking and record keeping processes lead.
  • Maintains and analyzes prospective and upgraded donor data and develops current and prospective donor lists and data. Produces current and prospective donor profiles and helps determine appropriate solicitation ranges.
  • Leads list management of development officer's portfolios regarding movement of qualified/disqualified leads, treatment in database, communication streams, etc.
  • Provides research support for major gifts prospects with university leadership staff, such as President, Provost, Deans, etc.
  • Reviews and refreshes prospect pool each campaign year, or more often as directed by AVP for Philanthropy, adding leads and prospects with $10,000+ estimated capacity to development officer's portfolios.
  • Maintains accuracy and integrity of Blackbaud database and ensures functionality of data interface with Millennium.
  • Trains end users, such as development officers and university staff, on the proper use of Blackbaud.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures outlining prospect research and donor profile report standards.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and standards for Blackbaud access and records maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree specializing in Business Administration or a related field or combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years experience in prospect research
  • Intermediate knowledge of donor types and understanding of fundraising processes and donor cycles.
  • Proficient in MS office (intermediate level)
  • Work independently with little or no supervision or collaboratively as a member of a team as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize high volume of information and problem-solving
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fundraising/development experience and non-profit experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM or Blackbaud.
  • Knowledge of information systems including a variety of software, internet, and various databases, and knowledge of prospect research ethics, including statements by APRA and CASE.


Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical and research skills. Advanced proficiency in conducting donor research, with experience in recognizing assessing wealth indicators and giving capacity as well as identifying prospects.
  • Proficiency in locating relevant information in a variety of formats, including: electronic, hard copy, telephone calls, conversations with staff and faculty; then consolidating it in a well-organized report format.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and excellent planning and organizing skills that demonstrate the ability to manage multiple simultaneous requests for information and prioritize those requests to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) that include sensitivity to donor information.
  • Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to effectively relate to a diverse audience.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amount of information.

This position will require an individual who performs well under pressure and can meet multiple deadlines while working on several concurrent projects.

Salary Information: $64,476 - $86,736/year
