Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Faculty (Tenure-Track)

Position Summary
The Ila Faye School of Nursing and Health Professions offers a traditional pre-licensure and RN-MSN. Offerings include MSN in Nursing Leadership, a BSN to DNP Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) concentration and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) concentration within its DNP Program.

University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a full-time (9-month) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, tenure-track faculty member to teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs. Teaching responsibilities include classroom, clinical teaching, and student advising. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Rank is dependent on education and experience.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.


Essential Functions
Teaching in the area(s) of expertise within graduate and undergraduate programs, outreach and community service, and active involvement of school and university, committee, service, and governance;

Developing and maintaining a program of scholarship based on the Boyer Model;

Teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate or graduate level include: classroom, lab, and clinical teaching; evaluating student performance; all faculty are expected to advise students and to work with a faculty team to design and evaluate curriculum materials to meet accreditation standards and guidelines;

Maintains all clinical clearance requirements and competence in clinical specialty;

May be requested to perform other similar duties.


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of professional nursing education standards for BSN, MSN, and/or DNP Program;

Professional competence in psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing;

Solid oral and written communication skills;

Well-developed education and/or health care team communication;

PMHNP education standards;

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Earned doctorate in nursing or closely related discipline with a Masters degree in nursing;

Completion of advanced practice graduate educational program with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner focus.


Required Work Experience
Successful nursing teaching experience or knowledge related to institutes of higher education, scholarship appropriate for rank for undergraduate and/or graduate nursing levels;

Expertise in PMHNP practice.


Preferred Qualifications
Spanish/English language skills;

Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation at the graduate level or with concept-based curriculum and/or distance education methodologies.


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Eligible for an unencumbered license as RN in Texas and unencumbered recognition by Texas State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse with psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner credential/certification and prescriptive authority;

Licenses must be obtained upon hire and maintained during the course of employment.
