Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,897 to $4,750 a month.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Senior Director for Reporting & Analytics, the Reporting and Analytics Data Analyst is responsible for the design and creation of data structures to produce reports to make data actionable and facilitate decision making for Senior Management. The incumbent interacts with campus constituencies to understand data requirements and iteratively designs documents, dashboards, alerts and reports using available tools. The incumbent works with Reporting & Analytics team members to identify the best means to display data e.g., dashboard, chart, report, tabular, filters, selection options and subsequently build. In the construction of data visualizations, the incumbent uses the application of design and data analysis techniques to organize the presentation of data in impactful and user-friendly ways. The incumbent provides administrative, technical and analytical support to various University constituents and may provide lead work direction within the department.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Creates and designs data structures and visualizations to produce reports that make data actionable and facilitates decision making for Senior Management. This may require the use of PeopleSoft Query, SQL scripts, Tableau/Tableau Prep or other software that enable the creation of said data structures and visualizations.
- Interacts with campus constituencies to understand data requirements and iteratively design documents, dashboards, alerts and reports using available tools that are responsive to said constituencies.
- Independently plans, organizes, and performs a wide variety of specialized administrative and technical duties in support of the successful completion of the projects and goals for the Office of Reporting & Analytics. Uses independent determination of approaches to projects and priorities with work reviewed against overall goals and objectives, with full accountability for results.
- Coordinates the collection, retrieval, and storage of data relevant to projects assigned; analyzing data and making accurate projections using advanced methods and procedures for statistical analysis.
- Interprets and synthesizes large volumes of data into easily comprehensible information; creating narrative reports as well as tables, charts, and illustrations; collaborating with team members, to prioritize and deliver on data requests and process improvements.
- Completes system wide reporting requirements up to and including submission of reports on behalf of the University.
- Identifies departmental needs, evaluates and develops new approaches to address complex problems or issues.
- Provides expertise to executives and management in the use of available data tools.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties will primarily take place in an office setting however, additional duties may be performed in various locations on the Sonoma State University campus, including working both indoors and outdoors to support and participate in university activities and events. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule however must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel, by automobile and airplane, and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours with overnight stays.

This position requires, with or without reasonable accommodations, the ability to frequently sit, move or stand for office and/or event functions, be at a computer for 8 hours/day, occasionally reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop and kneel and lift objects of up to 20 lbs in weight.

Qualifications
This position requires a bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, plus two years of related experience. Master's degree and experience working in a complex data environment with complex data and data visualizations preferred. Working knowledge of University structure and specific knowledge of enrollment management, reporting and analytics, and/or university scheduling preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of Google Suite, Tableau, SQL skills and PeopleSoft Query preferred.

In addition, the incumbent must possess the following:
- Working knowledge of, and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to enrollment management and reporting and analytics.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to enrollment management and reporting and analytics.
- Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision or collaboratively as a member of a team as appropriate.
- Make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment, discretion and initiative in performing complex work; use appreciable judgment to develop policies and procedures in needed areas where precedents and policies guiding development activities may not exist or be available for reference.
- Skill in research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
- Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, with attention to accuracy and detail, and the ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form.
- Ability to serve as a liaison for the Office of Reporting, Analytics and Scheduling.
- Ability to train others on new skills and procedures; and provide lead work direction.
